no, i was referring to you spending hours on a message board defending the jets from not being one of the worst franchises in nfl history. Just a weird argument to have a desire to have...

I can understand the delusional homerism, after all we all display it from time to time. It is part of being a fan.

But, we are historically one of the NFL's worst franchises. No amount of head in sand is going to change that. Eventually we have to start actually consistently winning to change that narrative.

True. At least we are trying something new with a new owner/gm/coach. Hopefully our best seasons are coming soon!

Your crazy dude one of the worst, ur way off. We are at least mid pack team. I’m not saying I like that at all but to say we are one of worst sorry but you have to think before you write stuff.

I hope so, because the alternative is really, really bad. If this whole Rhule episode goes down in flames, I think we are gonna be looking at a pretty significant period of being a cellar dweller in the NFL.

That is why I was so resistant to the kind of rebuild we were embarking on initially. Once you nose down into that dive, it makes it hard to pull up. Most franchises that opt to tear things down to the extent that we did spend an extended period of time in the NFL cellar before they are able to recover.

The fact we were so competitive last year with such a terrible roster definitely gave us a lot of hope. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be Fool's gold.

Keeping Marty in place was absolutely Tepper's fault. He has to own that, and from things he's said since the firing I think he knows it.

What happens from here forward is what's most important now, though. And one of the biggest criteria to me is his willingness to butt out and let the football people he hired do their jobs.

Based on Person's story about the Darnold process, it sounds like he's doing that.

The other part of that is getting the RIGHT football people in here. I suspect with this Darnold move we are gonna learn pretty quickly if we have the right staff or not.

The Panthers have been poorly run for a number of years but as for being one of the worst franchises historically I don't think you can make that claim yet. The franchise is still quite young and has been in two Super Bowls in the first two decades of existence. As an expansion team we also quickly found our way into the postseason, something that other teams in our division took many years to accomplish like the Saints for example. There have also been a few franchises in recent years like the Browns and Bills that have had very lengthy playoff droughts only recently ended. So I certainly understand the frustration with current times in Panthers land but historically we have not had it nearly as bad as some other teams over the years.

Our record is 16th best over the last 10 years. Our record is 18th best over the last 20 years. Historically we are average. No amount of head in the sand is going to change that.

In the last 20 years, We are tied for 12th in playoff appearances and 5th for Superbowl appearances.  That is not one of the worst franchises in the league.

Why are we not including the full franchise history?

This took 5 minutes on google to find this so I stopped there.

But since you asked, we were 38-42 in the 90s. Very average. Doesn’t really add much to the story but certainly doesn’t help your argument of us being among the worst.

That's a good read and opinion I just agree with. The team has been poorly run but not as bad as the absolute worst. Look at the Taints. Take away the Brees/Payton years and that franchise is utter paper bag over their heads garbage historically. The Browns are absolutely awful minus last season. Redskins and Jets look to be contentenders to be turds for years also.

Took the Rams trade but stayed put at 52 and at the top of the 3rd.

    • I mean, first of all, I'm not the one who initially said he was a life long fan, it was in that tweet in the OP. But more importantly, "life long fan" is a relative term, especially for a franchise like the Panthers.  I think anyone who was say, 10-12 or younger when the franchise started, and been a fan since the start, could claim to be a life long fan. I'm 38, been a fan of the team since year 1 even though I'm not even from the Carolinas, after almost 30 years of fandom and following them since the beginning, I have no issue saying I'm a life long Panthers fan. Very possible his dad is say around 40 years old and been a Panthers fan since the start.  And even if he's a little older, if you're a fan of a team for 30 out of your say 45ish years of life... that's "life long" in that instance.
