That very easily could have been us.

We talked to Miami before the 49ers did, saw their asking price and said "hell no".

Also, the Jets had to give a lot of thought to what they could trade the #2 pick for before letting Sam go. After SF set the value so high, they had to wait it out a little while before trading away their backup plan.

I thought that too, BUT Watson and Darnold are 2 very different trades.

They are but the core concern and desire to utilize the draft is the same. I don't see wanton disregard for the future draft picks being something that could exist within the same person saying these things.

It really is.  We have a set salary cap and a set number of roster spots.  So getting a starting QB vs. 3 picks (where only 1 or 2 might be solid roster occupants when the dust settles...) is not a high price.

I think we will get most of it back when we ditch the Bridge.

Not too worried.  They wanted a first, and Fitts could have squeezed them--we seemed to have the leverage, but in the grand scheme of things, we gave up about 230 draft points to get him (if you devalue next year's picks one round).  230 points is nearly the exact value of this year's 3rd rounder.

2021, round 6: 12.6 points

2022, round 2 (if we finish in middle of the pack, #16):  190 points (third round value in 2021)

2022, round 4 (if we finish in middle of the pack, #16):  25.8 points (fifth round value in 2021)

So if we get a 3rd rounder in 2021 or a future 2nd for Bridgewater, it balances out.  even steven

If Fitterer gets a 3rd or 2nd rounder for Teddy, he is immediately our best GM of all time.
