Justin Fields managing epilepsy

So “managing” means he was diagnosed with epilepsy at some point and is taking something for them. It doesn’t mean he’s had a recent seizure, also doesn’t mean he hasn’t. But it means it’s in control.

Seizure medication is fairly straightforward and not that big a deal. Keppra, for example, is safe to give during pregnancy and has the side effect of making people cranky. Hell, aspirin is technically an anti epileptic drug. the worst side effect from commonly prescribed drugs is probably hyponatremia from carbamezapine.

there is a drug called fycompa that has the side effects of delirium and homicidal ideation, which we always laugh about in the office and never prescribe.

there are specific seizure disorders that hit you in childhood like Lennox gastaut or whatever but that is severe and I doubt he could be where he is athletically if he’d been afflicted with it.

teams manage their players meds at big schools, certainly places like UGA or OSU. two schools have checked off on him. I can’t imagine this would impact him at the nfl level.

plus, every nfl player is at risk for seizures since one of the most common cause of them is concussions.

overall I doubt this is a big deal

I was on Keppra for years and along with the suicidal thoughts it gave me I still had seizures. Everyone is different but food for thought.

He’s going to be just fine. Never missed a game in college and the only games in high school he missed was from a broken finger. This is a non issue.

Hopefully, but you don't know this. Epilepsy can return at any time.

Then I would t exactly call you managed.

Medicating epilepsy isn't an exact science. Any neuro worth their salt will tell you that epilepsy can never be 100% managed. Hopefully he will be fine, just trying to correct any misinformation considering there is a stigma that surrounds epilepsy that I'm all too familiar with.

Please drop to 8.

I don't know if it will make a difference. We've pushed the chips in on Sam Darnold. And whose to say that Darnold isn't perceived as the better prospect by our FO. He sure is by some evaluators. I've even heard multitple times that he'd be second behind Lawrence in  this draft. I don't know who or what to believe, but I wouldn't bet the house on drafting any QB while we're on the clock on day one.

No one is an exact science. But yours was 0% managed.

Considering I had 2 seizures in the 8 years that I was on Keppra most would call that controlled or managed, if not a success story. My concern is an epileptic playing a contact sport at the highest level. Which is a legitimate concern.

One of my rich ass friends had epilepsy, he was the type to rent a giant vacation home for bro weekend AND send steaks/prime beef AND REFUSE your money...Wallstreet millionaire, but he was also the type to cook steak and eggs after a booze driven night. Great guy. Any who, he told us and "nothing you can do but enjoy the show". Even said play "shake, rattle, and roll and wait for me to stop moving"

    • My first thought was yes I would like to extend, but next years tag is 24 million for WR and with the explosion of the WR market it could be a fair price. With what Jefferson just got paid and Lamb, Higgins, and Aiyuk pushing the price forward as a whole 24 could be a bargain if he’s a 90 catch 1,000yard receiver like him hoping.  I could see Amari Cooper,  Mike Williams, Diggs, and Keenan Allan all having sizable contracts too even as they age. Tag him.
    • If he plays great this year then just pay him after that.  The odds that an expiring contract we got for Donte Jackson is going to be worth extending is pretty low.  He could pop off but it’s just the reality of the situation.
