I mean, if you want to live in the fantasy of the ACC being good in 2020 to make yourself feel better, have at it.

3 teams played in New Year six bowls, that’s reality. Pretty much every team played primarily in conference games, which definitely helped Coastal and others to look the part.

The SEC fared pretty well OOC during bowl season. I don't know if they were the strongest conference but they did go 3-0 versus the ACC.

I would imagine that the traditional ACC vs. SEC seasonal matchups would likely have been similarly tilted.

The ACC just wasn't good last year versus a couple of seasons ago when we were very clearly the best conference.

A ton of teams were mentally DONE by the time Bowl season came along.

Teams opted out of Bowl games ffs. The ACC was good last year, as it is most years.

I would definitely disagree. It's easy to look good when you are only playing other weak teams in the conference. That why those out of conference games and bowl games usually give a good indication of relative conference strength every season.

Last season we missed most of the early season games that give the other portion of that frame of reference. That is largely why it was hard to see how poor the ACC was.

Honestly not sure what the point was, though. Once they were at #3, they had their pick.

I wouldn't discount the NFL stepping in and asking them to keep quiet about their selection.  Gotta have some drama in the draft now that it's a prime time television event (especially with picks 1 & 2 already known).

UNC was competitive against TAMU despite missing their #1 WR, both 1000+ yard RBs and their best defender to opt-outs while TAMU had zero opt-outs and we're playing to prove they were snubbed from the playoffs.

Jacksonville has already confirmed they weren't allowed to make their pick until 7 minutes into the clock, at which point it took them three phone calls to get Trevor to answer.

I think the League now treats draft night as some type of reality TV show that they want to manipulate for higher ratings.   Must have some surprises, some heart-wrenching human interest stories, some shocking reveals.

In the future look for a WWE brawl on camera between two teams over a pick.  Would make for lots of newspaper coverage.  Who cares that it is totally staged.

Agreed. The whole thing is goofy as fug. I want to know who gets picked and see some instant analysis and highlights of the player. IDGAF about all the event around it.

Yeah, it's getting a bit too Super Bowlish IMO. The Super Bowl has become such a spectacle at this point that sometimes it's difficult to recall that there's a football game being played.

I do like that there is more time to go get beer or food at halftime. Or cool something. Or change the channel to watch something not dumb. Plus, you know you have easily 45 minutes of "still not game" built in on the front end if your cooking/grilling/smoking schedule gets out of whack.

That probably makes as much sense as anything.

It’s 2021 sir

I understand you might be busy but the whole discussion about the Tar Heels started when I said Lance would have beaten them last year.

In football it's generally considered that the "Football Year" starts when camp starts.

The consensus is Aug 1st.

Last year would be the 2019 regular season.

This year would be the 2020 season.

Next year would be the 2021 season.

So when I say Lance would have beaten UNC last year. Yes he would have.

    • Nobody is saying we don't need it, just that we have bigger needs elsewhere, and that type of WR is actually something that is often found in the mid rounds, you just have to scout and evaluate properly. Here's another way of looking at why WR in the 1st shouldn't even be considered an option. Looking only at players currently on the team, what position group would you feel strongest about 4 years from now? I'm not sure there is a better answer there than WR, as you have to think T-Mac is our best player on the team in 4 years (Brown is the only current player I think there is even an argument to be made over T-Mac there), with Coker not far behind. Our OL is too old to be considered, my opinions on Bryce is well known, Hubbard will be done by then and the rest of the RB is an unknown, Off-ball LB is maybe our biggest need, we only have 1 legit safety, it's certainly not TE, and our 2nd best CB right now will be 33 by then.   Brown should still be a beast as he'll only be 31, but nobody else on the DL projects to be that good in 4 years.  Edge rusher with Phillips, Scourton, and Princely is probably the only other possible answer than WR. So yes, that fast/shifty type of WR is 100% a need of ours, but we have so many other bigger needs both in the immediate and future, that to me, taking a WR in the 1st for the 3rd year in a row and having hit on another WR in the same time frame, just makes zero sense both currently and looking into the future.
    • Laughing at Slayton (Mooney or Calvin Austin III), but telling me that Coker is the next best thing since sliced bread...You laughing at Theo Johnson in reference to our guys too? LOL No one in their right mind thinks Nabers is anything but a stud (definitely top 10 if not 5 potential). You do realize that Thomas was in a new system with a furst-time coach last year (with a questionable QB to boot)? And yet still, it's possible that he eclipses even T-mac (not saying that he will). They didn't even mention Travis Hunter. In any event, we're not in the top half. Draft another legit receiver, and we will be.
    • Absolutely, very fair assessment of the team.
