Sam Darnold's "Style of Ball"

I don't see it as a low-ball, it's just what we were willing to offer. We were probably hoping the Lions would value the higher pick. Honestly, we were always a long shot to land Stafford. To their credit, the Lions actually wanted to do right by him after botching it with Barry Sanders and Megatron. Objectively, the Niners are just a much better situation than we are.

True, it was what we were willing to offer, and we had to know that it was low.

If we got Stafford for Teddy, a first, and some change, we would be celebrating for the steal we just made.  We'd be wondering if Fit had mind control powers or something.  We paid like 7 million just to help Teddy move on.

How can you possibly know it wasn’t the last? We didn’t offer anyone else afterwards so it technically was last, but no one else good was really available...  Your guy Albert Breer who we are suppose to 100% believe in this story was helping push the we might draft a QB story as well. I doubt any of us will know the whole story. I’m not taking one side other than he clearly wasn’t our first. But we should we sit here and believe one journalist and write off another sometimes same journalist article?

Did we draft Fields?

Person confirmed in a post draft Q&A that the quarterback talk was to fish for offers.

Some folks would be.

When the news of what we offered for Stafford was posted here a few months back, a few folks just about lost their minds.

That’s my point. Breer was WRONG in this article and it’s now officially proven. You can’t take any of these reports as the gospel, not even Breer.

Did we trade the pick? Ah! See there!

Your game isn't hard to play. It isn't very nuanced.

No, because we didn't get an offer we liked as much as we liked Horn.

Not sure what you thought you were getting out of that post. You're starting to sound like Sizzlebuzz.

"The best thing that Brady can do is create easy throws for Darnold, which should be quite easy. All-world tailback Christian McCaffrey, provided he stays healthy, can put up 100 receptions in a season, especially with a 17th game added to the schedule."

"Combine McCaffrey’s unique receiving ability with the likes of DJ Moore, Robby Anderson and rookie Terrace Marshall Jr. at wide receiver, and the Panthers have a formidable set of weapons on paper."

There's a big difference between being wrong about what you think might happen and telling a story about something that did.

It still doesn’t clarify much. Did we talk to their GM in Feb sure. I’m sure every GM Fitt is near, he is speaking to (if he is halfway decent at his job). Rhule was high on Darnold obviously that’s why the trade happened, but was he higher on other players? Who the hell knows except obviously he was higher on Stafford. Tell me this, if we missed on Darnold who was our next FA/trade target for the QB position? The draft is too risky and the trade officially happened AFTER the Niners traded their future away for pick 3.

Also have to remember that Stafford being available for trade was made known. Darnold's availability was a question mark.

Bottom Line: We know they started talking about Darnold early and kept at it till the deal was done, chose to forego two available draftees and now they're building around him.

That's not a weak commitment.

When you resort to hanging your hat on a typo, you've tapped out.

When you resort to making assumptions out of someone's motivations for following Darnold, you're just as credible as the wino loitering down at the local street corner.

And my point stands : You only choose to read what you want from the Breer article that Scot provided so long as it supports your flimsy BS arguments.

My point was there were no FA/trade targets left. Relying on the draft with pick 8 knowing 1-3 are QBs is a very risky game. They secured Darnold vs playing that game IMO. The fact that we heated up the conversation AFTER the Niners moved up to 3 kind of gives it away for me. The good news is Fields and Mac were available and we were confident enough in Darnold to address another need instead.

I think you've already lost. You bailed on your team to follow a bust. That's about the weirdest bandwagon hopping I've encountered.
