How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

Some NFL Scouts had a higher draft grade on Sam Darnold than those of Wilson and Fields. Wilson produced one great season against a "cupcake schedule," according to them. Fields had a couple of poor games in 2020, raising eyebrows.

Sam came out with a high grade and he has shown flashes he can be a really good quarterback. He hasn't had much around him.

Now you think about the change to a better Panthers team and that makes me feel he has shown enough to warrant the benefit of the doubt.

This. Wilson had 1 good season and shot up draft boards. He is more likely than not to bust, especially with the Jets. He had an easy schedule combined with Covid and the defenses sucking.

2 is basically what happened with Deshaun Watson

Tannehill was flat out better than Darnold was in NY, to go from the worst starter in the league to above average has rarely EVER happened in NFL history

Adam Gase was coach of Miami 2016,2017 & 2018 and the jets 2019 and 2020

Ryan Tannehill Stats | ESPN

Tannehill QBRs under Gase were: 45.6, 48.6 and 33.2 for an average of  42.5

Sam Darnold Stats | ESPN

Darold's QBRs under Gase were:  45.6 and 40.1 for an  average of 42.9

This surprised me...but under Gase,   Darnold's QBR was higher than Tannehill's.

Tannehill's QBR went from 33.2 to 64.2 after he left Gase.

Where will Darnolds 40.1 QBR go to?

BTW, Tannehill was ranked 32nd by QBR in 2018, his last year under Gase.

In 2019 after he left Gase, he was ranked 9th in the regular season, and 4th out 12 in the postseason.

In fact, in 2018, when Tannehill was under Gase, Darnold was under Bowles.

Darnold, as a rookie, was ranked higher than  Tannehil that year.

Sorry I should have put that all in one post.

But that's not entirely true.

Adam Gase took over in Miami in 2016.

Tannehill had an okay season that year before getting hurt and missing all of the next season.

in 2018 when he came back he had a less good year, but it was still statistically better than Darnold in everything but QBR.

If we're going to be fair in the assessment being doled out here, it should be noted that Tannehill outplayed his previous year in his first year under Gase. He outplayed Darnold in 2016 as well. Obviously 201 7 doesn't matter since Tannehill didn't play. 2018 Tannehill played well compared to Darnold in every category but QB.

I have hopes for Darnold, but I at least think we should be talking about him honestly here.

People want to switch stats when they don't like what they see.  Tannehill's last season in Miami had less than 2000 yards.  Which stat are you going to use to make him look good?

Tannehill had 140 less attempts than Darnold that season. He threw for .3 more yards per attempt, and had 6 less INTs and over 7% better completion percentage. Compare apples to apples.

Season QBR is apples to apples.

You just don't like it cause it makes Tannehill look bad with the league worst 33.2 in 2018.

And if we go by Passer Rating? INTs? YPA? TDPA? TOPA? Completion %? 7-9 Dolphins vs 4-12 Jets?

The evidence is stacked against you. You're losing this argument.

A QB can have a passer rating of 158.3, which is perfect, and still have a 39.0 QBR.

This case is a perfect example of this. All the numbers tell you Tannehill had the better year by every possible measurement except for ESPN's convoluted QBR metric.
