Defensemen:

Canes only have 4 blueliners under contract for the 21-22 season with 40 games played this season or 70 in the past 2 seasons and they have to leave one unprotected:

Slavin, Pesce, Skjei and Jake Gardiner. Jake played but 26 games this season, but played 68 last, so he's eligible to be drafted. I think the team has little choice but to let Jake go to protect Slavin, Pesce and Skjei.

Let Dougie walk, new contracts to Jani, Bean and LaJoie (RFA) and go find a couple FAs.

I'd let skjei go before bean

Also be interesting to see what Tampa Bay does in the off season. Not a lot of free agents on their roster, so how do they get under the cap with 5 guys making up over half of their cap?

One of them is going to Seattle. Probably Mcdonagh.

Scary situation here. Who are you going to expose (and it has to be 2 of these)?:

Aho, TT, Nino, Staal, Trocheck, Fast, Necas

Staal can't be exposed- he's got a no movement clause.

I'm leaving Gardiner, Nino and Tro exposed if it's up to me; hoping that they choose Jake the Gardiner Snake.

Sorry man, I like my Jake's with 2 c's and an A on their chest. And Brett, Brady and Paa all play to the important Sara Civian sorority girl demographic originally courted by shirtless Dougie.

One of these guys is gonna have to bite the bullet and lose the shirt postgame if Hamilton walks.

Nino or Tro would both hurt to lose. However, both have recent injury histories that might make them unattractive targets. I also believe that both are at or near their ceilings talent wise which makes them less attractive as well.

Aho, Turbo and El Capitan are too important. And, Fast still has a lot of untapped potential both on the ice and for memes. He might even be a boat!

No way TB would ever go for it but man would I absolutely love to get ahold of Brayden Point.

You can bet TT will be protected.  He is a core player for us on a terrific contract, no way he is left for Seattle to take.

Yeah well I dont know how much of a core player he has to be. We looked better with him not playing last year.

TT didn't have his best season last year, but if you think we are better without him I'd like to know who you consider replacing him with and what other winger on this team other than Svech you think is better than he is?

He had an off year for sure. First COVID than almost immediately a lasting concussion. I feel like he was having some personal issues as well from some of his comments post concussion. He still performed admirably. Just maybe not as much on the score sheet. I think it’s good to have another fin on Aho’s line as well. He’s locked down on a good contract for awhile. There’s no reason not to protect him.

Necas is better. Also I like TT....its just i think we can still be good without him. As skilled as he is he lacks a degree of physicality we desperately need.  As much as I like him Id rather move him to keep some of our other players.

Necas had a better season than Turbo, but I won't say he is better yet.  I hope he becomes better than TT!

Again, TT won't be left unprotected.

    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
