Troy Pride....Speedster

Some of the knocks on CB Troy Pride leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft were a lack of aggressiveness, both in terms of attacking the ball in coverage as well as attacking in the running game as a tackler.

Pride is going to need to develop more of an edge rather quickly with the Panthers, who are going to be all about speed and toughness under Matt Rhule.

He has all of the raw tools and athleticism to be effective, but needs to prove he can be physical and aggressive enough? Time will tell.

Baptism by fire.  He took a lot of lumps last year as a rookie...but that D finished pretty strong.

You have to as a CB. Horn will take his lumps as well but having a young unit that can grow is a good thing. Also having speed at that position is necessary.

He was often in position last season but couldn't locate the ball or make plays on the ball.

Pride is in dog fight for staying on the roster. Panthers added Horn, AJ, Taylor and vet Melvin. Panthers mainly carry 4, sometimes 5 CBs and Djak should make the team as well. AJ is missing the first two weeks and that may help Prides chances. Amazing to see where the CB group was at the 2019 off-season compared to now.

STO is another one whos fighting for a roster spot as well, good problem to have...

If we keep 4-5 max, your list should start with Horn and Jackson.  Bouye, Melvin, and Taylor were brought in. Pride is gonna have to unseat one of them.

Pride is at worst solid depth. He had no business being in some of the matchups he was as often as he was last season and he still looked okay as a late round pick. Depth guy/STer with potential to grow isn't a bad thing.

He shouldn't have too much problem with Melvin. If he's looking better you go with your young draft pick in my opinion

I think it was combination experience, scheme and help.

Hopefully all are improved this year.

He apparently has the speed.

    • All three were horrendous though.  A Stroud sucks too the pain of the Bryce trade is watching a home town kid go to the Patriots and in all likelihood make a SB appearance in his second year....
    • Carolina Panthers projected to take massive swing for Trey Hendrickson in free agency And one ESPN analyst believes the Panthers have a clear path to one blockbuster free-agent signing that would shake the NFL to its foundations. Aaron Schatz thought the Panthers make a ton of sense for edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, whose time with the Cincinnati Bengals looks up. This isn't the sort of signing Morgan typically goes for, but Carolina is ready to win now. That changes the landscape considerably. Acquiring Hendrickson won't be cheap. The NFL's sack leader in 2023 and 2024 should be in high demand on the open market, and the Bengals will likely allow him to explore other employment opportunities. It would be an all-in move from Morgan, but the rewards might be substantial as the Panthers look to get over the hump. Hendrickson is an elite pass-rusher. His relentless motor, exceptional technique, and violent hands make him a legitimate force that very few around the league can match. He may be 31 years old now, but there is nothing to suggest that he cannot keep performing well at the tail-end of his playing journey. According to Spotrac, Hendrickson is expected to command an annual salary of $25.44 million on a two-year, $50.89 million deal. The Panthers would have to move some money around to make it work, but now is the time to strike after winning the NFC South and making the playoffs in 2025.
