Yeah, that was a miss.

But how were they to know?  I remember people being frustrated with Gano as well.  I really thought they would choose Butker.  Oh well.

Not with Hurney/Rivera making the decision.  It was Gettleman that drafted Butker.

You are right. One of my fellow friends that our whole friendship was the panthers, after missing that Denver game winning FG he completely was done with Gano. He did care and would not change his mind after that happened. To him it was like taking back a woman who cheated on you, he was 100% over, no going back, and wanted nothing more with them.

Tell him to grow up.

If you're talking about that 2016 opener, he made it the first time!

Damn fckng timeout.

Gettleman drafted him, Hurney let him go months later.  It was a group effort.  Sort of our greatest hits type thing.

As I think about it, in terms of games where he appeared to be the deciding factor, he wasn't THAT bad.

He was  5 for 5 FGs in the Chargers game FTW.  We couldn't find the endzone with a map that game.

He missed the 65 yarder at the end of the NO game.

He just missed the 67 yarder against KC.

He missed the 54 yarder against the Vikes.

If he had made either of the 60+yarders we'd be celebrating him as hero, especially the KC one, which JUST missed.

If Teddy had gotten enough RZ/2 min/Endzone  practice and the play came early enough so he wasn't rushed 🙄 he would have hit wide open DJ in the back of the endzone.

The only one I can reasonably blame him for is the Vikes, but in my mind, that was more on Teddy.

I preached this during the season but folks just wouldn't have it. Two of those missed FGs were at record or near record distances. One was a 54-yarder which is a distance almost all kickers miss at about 33% of the time. One defensive stop or one more first down on our part would have changed those situations massively and won us those games... things Slye had no control over.

Those missed PATs, though... yeah, that can't happen.

i dont care how much hes working, hes going to miss when matters because he is a choke.

I think you can only count the Vikes game as a choke, and the whole team choked on that one.  Coaches not running down the clock.  TB missing DJ. ... and it culminated with the missed kick.  Textbook clusterfk.

Everyone was so upset when we beat Washington....well I don't care I wanted to beat Ron and I cheered.  He was one big missed opportunity.  It would have been even better if we knocked them out of the playoffs.

If I had to choose between losing the Vikes or Washington games I'd choose Vikes everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

I hate it when teams pull off the throttle when they get inside the 35 late in a close game.  Sure, they may be in FG range, but 50+ yarders are not something I would want to put my hopes on.  Even when a FG will be the difference, the goal should be to break the 20.  When you break the 20, the goal should be to have the kicker lining up for a PAT, if there is time.  Don't be stupid, but don't quit, either.

A lot can go wrong with a kick.

Yep

@The Huddler is a VT fan who warned us about Slye when we signed him.

He pretty much called what we are seeing.

    • I'm happy with TMac, but Tyler Warren was last season's Tyler Linderbaum for me in that he was at a position that wasn't one of the five pillars but he was the best player at his position AND one of the top talents in the draft. I cannot fuging wait for the Panthers to start winning again so that those guys fall to us like they seem to for teams like Baltimore & Philadelphia.
    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
    • Allen was borderline unplayable in College.  He's an absolute unicorn in terms of his career panning out the way it has.
