Aaron Rodgers to retire?

Per NBCSports

SI.com's Bill Huber reports Las Vegas sportsbooks are "preparing for Aaron Rodgers to retire."

It adds to speculation Rodgers won't be back with the Packers when training camp opens next week. Multiple sportsbooks, including DraftKings, have removed Packers-based wagers on the belief Rodgers will retire, while PFT's Mike Florio suggests there’s a "very good reason" to think Rodgers won’t report to camp. The Packers broke off long-term talks with contract-year WR Davante Adams on Friday, the latest misstep for a front office that's been under fire all offseason. Rodgers, who rejected a two-year extension, may be willing to sit out 2021 as he looks to force his way out of Green Bay.

Looks like there is 0% chance he plays for the packers again

Worked for Gronk. Took a year off. Came back and won a Ring.

Yeah, but Rodgers is under contract until the 2024 season. He can retire, but the Packers hold his rights until then.

Thats true, except that's not how it works in reality when a player takes a year off. After a whole season of Jordan Love they will be in a rock and hard place and a whole year out of football kinda proves the player is dead serious and irreconcilable. What do you hold him in spite with your new bride? Nope, they have to let him go or trade him for a 2nd round pick.

Ask Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. Then again, the Lions are one of the worst ran organizations in the NFL and the Packers are one of the best.

Rodgers will not play another down of NFL Football, without the written consent of the Green Bay Packers.

There are literally 10s of ways this can go. But if Rodgers wants to still play QB, he is going to need GBs help. GB has him under Contract. For all intents and purposes. They own him.

Aaron Rodgers, and Devante Adams say hi. Green Bays reputation has taken a big hit lately. They've had Rodger his whole career. And won 1 SB. I wouldn't say they were ever the gold standard.

That's what happens when you have Stockholders. Profits over glory.

The Packers compete year in and year out. They have a total of four losing seasons since we entered the league. We have a total of seven winning seasons in that same timeframe. I wouldn't say they're the absolute gold standard either, but they're certainly one of the better ran teams in the league.

They have done a fair job of putting pieces around Arod. The RB position is always a ? They can never seem to quite figure out the WR position. They had a great D for years, lately, not so much.

They did well with what they have. Stockholders. They never spend their Cap. They under pay anyone that let's them. And now they have lost the last great GB QB.

We'll see how they fare, now that they don't have a HOF QB.

I heard that the annual stockholders' meeting is this coming week.  That one should be interesting.

Rogers is a narcissistic prick who has made sure he is the center of attention.  The losers are the GB fans. Those fans who fill the stadium in 20 below weather deserve better.

I can understand his frustration with the Packers but I get the vibe he's just tired of seeing someone like Tom stockpile more and more rings and even young stars like Mahomes joining in. You could argue GB has been inconsistent with their defense over the years but they have still been one of the more competitive teams overall. I rooted for the Packers when they won it all some years back but Aaron has peeled back his persona quite a bit since then and shown he likes to make it about himself a little too much. But he's going to be just fine regardless of all this and he's plenty wealthy with numerous options after football.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
