What fugging world are you living on?

Dude Teddy almost threw for 4000 last year.  There is 1 extra game this year as well. A competent QB LAST YEAR would have thrown for 4500+ yards and 30+ TDs. It’s absolutely within the realm of possibilities that Sam could go for close to 4500.

And you are just signing off on darnold as a competent QB? He threw for 2.2 last season. Teddy was at his average(minus the knee of course).

Sure, why not?  You cannot compare the situation Sam was in last year with what we have going this year. There was not 1 WR or back on their team that’s as good as our WR3. Joe Brady vs Adam Gase is a joke. I guess we all just have to see how it plays out. But you are so dead set on Sam sucking before he’s even thrown 1 pass for us. Last year was his only really bad season and that entire team was in tank mode and quit on their head coach.

I’m no darnold hater but you are saying he’s gonna he Brady+mahomes+Manning in one, in the first season here. You gotta temper your opinion of someone to what is reasonable, only than you can be surprised if they do better.

I said nothing of the sort. I’m just saying there is  A LOT of opportunity for yards and TDs in this years offense.

Teddy averaged 205 yards/game in Minnesota, 249 here. Darnold has averaged 213 yards/game over this career; if he also sees a 45 yard improvement, we're talking 258 yards per game, or 4386 yards for a season.  Even if Darnold only improves by, say, 25 yards a game, and gets to 235 yards/game himself (as in, fewer yards than Teddy last year), he's just under 4k yards. There are plenty of reasons to think Darnold could eclipse 4k yards this year in a realistic scenario.

The crazy poo is he could pass 4k yards and still not be much of an answer for us at QB.  We saw how Teddy looked between the 20s...

edit: keep in mind Darnold hasn't played 16 games yet.  He had 3k yards in 13 games (basically twice). Obviously he'll need to play every game this year to pass 4k with us in all likelihood, but he hasn't been afraid to throw it around.

    • would love it if Vegas were Week 5 (Oct 7).  Just throwing it out there with fingers crossed
    • I believe you are correct. Everyone remembers that record setting drubbing of the Broncos but that was the highlight of their season. They have very good coaching overall and they have a ton of talent. With a better QB they could have knocked off the Chiefs IMO. We aren't even in the conversation of the Dolphins until proven otherwise. We couldn't even get in the end zone against the lowly Chicago Bears. We got shutout and blown out by the CJ Beathard led Jaguars for fugs sake. We can't even compete with bad teams let alone run up the score on them. To me if I'm being completely realistic if I'm the GM and my job is on the line and I feel like Tua is Bryce Young's ceiling I'm drafting QB in the first round next year unless he just magically has a season like Stroud did last year. That's it. I'm genuinely not trying to be abrasive about this it just gets really mind numbing eventually that we keep lowering the bar down down down down down and it's like hey it's fine to have expectations. And if you have a young QB in his prime and he isn't giving you at least prime Jake Delhomme arm talent it's time to keep looking for a QB.
    • Not exactly.  They show that Jones was making the most of the opportunities he had.  I was never a fan of his, but I think that the talent level in NE last year is somehow escaping the massive negative attention it should have received.  That team was terrible - especially the talent and coaching on offense - and everyone was still afraid of the wrath of hoodie. He'll have a chance to restart his career at some point.  He was a middle of the pack QB as a rookie.  Plenty of teams out there would love to make it up to middle of the pack at QB.
