Question for you 50 years plus folk (and others)?

Yea I would take that deal.

A better and more relevant question in my opinion is would be to offer a comparison.

Would you rather win it all and suck or come close every year but never win one?

Because compared to the last 26 years I’d take the deal.

But if those last 26 years, say 15-20 of them we’d always be close and in the mix vs. winning one then being the Browns every year…that’s a harder choice imo.

Yeah, I mean whatever makes you sleep better at night.

It's not a matter of rationalizing. It's just open mindedness.

I genuinely don't know whether Tepper is going to be a successful owner or not, but that leaves all options open.

Saying you know we're going to be terrible is just as invalid as saying you know we'll be champions.

I've never liked the idea of living off a single season's glory while sucking from then on.

If I had that mentality, I might as well be a Jets fan.

(or a Bears fan)

We weren't that many years removed from wearing diapers when Broadway Joe won. People are still mentioning the '85 Bears to this day. It's one thing to see things from a young man's point of view, but I bet that those who were 50+ then, most of them no longer here, were pleased as punch to see their team as the champs!

And I'd be pleased to see the Panthers win one.

But by the time we were in year ten of being dog sh-t, saying "well hey, we were good once" isn't gonna make all the bad feelings from that go away.

Nope, I'd rather have a competitive team on the regular than a one-hit wonder.  You can only bask in the glory one moment in time for so long.  That would like saying, the Panthers always suck, but at least we have '03 and '15!

Pretty much.

And as good as those memories are, they don't make me feel any better when I'm in the middle of watching a game where we look like garbage.

I'd bet the Jets would gladly have their lone Super Bowl revoked if it meant getting monkey off their back.

    • The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to a new model for selecting playing surfaces in stadiums Fingers crossed we get a grass field back.  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47203298/nfl-union-agree-new-model-picking-playing-surfaces
    • Oookaaay. just to review the original topics and where we're at to this point: - Jeremy Fowler, Dan Graziano, Joe Person have all said that they expect Young's fifth year option to get picked up, with Person calling it an "easy decision". I've yet to see anyone say otherwise, and barring something crazy happening there'll likely be more insiders and analysts making the same prediction in months to come (especially if we make the playoffs). - Also doubt anyone disagrees that Dave Canales isn't being retained (which was actually the first point thrown out in this thread) and any staff changes that do happen will probably be backfilling as opposed to replacing. - Front office? Turnover, title changes and promotions are pretty close to an annual thing there. May or may not be major moves, but there will likely be changes. Heck, there are some prior positions currently unstaffed which they may be looking to fill (Neil Stratton is always a good source for news of that sort). ... So, questions? Comments? Insults? 😕 Or are we good?
    • This dude has led his team to 11 PPG since taking over, which would be an NFL-worst by more than 3 PPG this season. He just put up 3 points at home for his offense against the Falcons two weeks ago. Even Rattler has averaged 5 more PPG this season, and he was benched for how poorly he was leading their offense. Rattler is a second-year 5th round pick with only 14 starts in his NFL career and is younger than Shough, so I think it’s still fair game to compare the two with the exact same supporting cast around them. Becoming a Shough fanboy is what happens when I guess you just read box scores on ESPN. You can fawn over Completion % and YPG but at the end of the day if a QB isn’t leading his offense to score points, that’s a pretty giant elephant in the room that I can’t just hand-wave. Is Shough an awful bust? Of course not, his career has barely started, and has a lot of good and a lot of bad like most rookies. But do I think he has been super duper impressive so far? Naw. We should decide as a fanbase if we’re actually serious about wanting better than mediocrity, or if we glaze starting QBs who score 11 PPG. I don’t think those are compatible positions.
