Why are we on CBS?

I guess I've never noticed that or thought thst it went by home teams. I guess we are playing a lot more afc opponents then usual here lately

We play the exact same number of AFC opponents we play every year: four. The NFL schedule has a predetermined format to it, part of which is each team plays one division from the other conference each year on a rotating basis. Two of those games are home games, two are away. That pretty much never changes.

CBS broadcasts in 1080p vs. Fox in 720p if memory serves

Is this a recent change? Swear CBS had the worst quality for years, and it has been notorious for that especially in the mid 2000s.  Their games used to look awful. Out bid on the scheduling saw them cut back on quality.

According to wikipedia, which may or may not be accurate, here are the max resolution levels for national broadcasts

  • ABC: 720p
  • CBS: 1080i
  • ESPN: 720p
  • FOX: 720p
  • NBC: 1080i
  • NFL Network : 1080i

The problem is that the cable company may not support higher resolutions on the channels that they feed down the line. Which is why Netflix and other streamers, along with DirecTV, are able to offer 4K channels.

But until the sports stuff is *filmed* in the higher resolutions, don't expect to see Ultra 4k HD for weekly NFL broadcasts any time soon.

Per Reddit - FOX does some HDR via the Fox Sports App or the FuboTV streamer. Fox and NBC 4K feeds are upscaled of their 1080 stuff

They'll probably air the super bowl this year in 4K, as an experiment. If Amazon (or Apple or whatever streamer) ends up with Sunday Ticket, I'd expect games to be available in 4K via that method before they're available on 4K via broadcast

That's the general jist of it but the NFL has been allowing cross flexing for a few years now where a network can reach across and grab a game from the other conference.  They did that after they ran into some issues with all of the best games being AFC or NFC games.  Now there is a little bit of flexibility to wheel and deal as needed.  The same for Thanksgiving.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
