lol, the football knowledge of the average fan is so sad it's laughable.

To the extent we even have a true "free safety" and "strong safety" designation, it doesn't mean the free safety is always playing coverage and the strong safety is always in the box for the run game. There are plenty of times when either or both safeties have primary run game responsibilities, especially if you have some sort of stunt call or an unusual blitz. Combine that with the fact that Snow likes to bring pressure from all three levels, and you cannot afford to have a safety that cannot hold up against the interior run game. There's a reason why they are putting 200+ pound guys like Burris and Franklin who are traditionally what people think of as "strong safeties" at that spot next to Chinn. They want two guys who can hold up against the run in there.

Here's a good breakdown with easy diagrams of the ways safeties and the nickel have to be able to play primary run fits in the modern 4-2-5: http://www.blitzology.com/2015/11/4-2-5-basics-run-fits-vs-2-back.html

Average fan? lol Ok tough guy. I know its not every time and that the FS will have to make tackles. Your post is just a bunch of word garbage because everybody already knows this. It's redundant. Yes, we also do have a distinct FS and SS no matter how many times others try to deny it. The reason Burris and Franklin has been beside Chinn is because we hadn't had the resources like we do now to have anyone better.

At the end of the day it was just a suggestion and you didn't have to take it so hard like you're ramming a giant dragon dildo up your ass. Lighten up.

anyone else expect this to fall flat on its face? Reminds me of the Eric Reid signing, which he never met expectations. Much like CJ getting torched on Sunday, just because it looks good on paper/Madden, doesn't mean it works out. We still can't protect our QB and we still got exposed against the run.

It cost them just over 5M to find out if he has anything to offer. I would say it is a non-issue.

I dont know if its been stated but this move to me feels like to 100% block him form going to TB(bill didnt want him there either) since they are currently down 3 starting CBs. Another funny point is if Gil plays well and is not resigned, panthers could get a comp pick better than the 6th given to Pats.

Holy Lee fug this GM may have bigger balls than David MFing Tepper. I do not care if CJ or Gil are successful or not, no bad side to his trading....the guy got a 7th for little without conditions!! If he lands Jaylon Smith, put him in the panthers HOF right NOW!!!

You’re welcome for teaching you a little bit about football. Sorry you had to get so butt hurt to get there, but at least you learned something.

    • Final Drive: First play Bryce misses an open Jimmy Horn in the middle of the field. It would have easily moved the sticks and taken very little time off the clock. He was probably the only WR open on that play, but it's right in front of you. Gotta see that one. And Jimmy has the fresh legs on that drive.  Second play there was potential but the protection broke down before guys even got to the top of their routes. WRs really gave up on the play in the scramble drill though. I think Coker and TMac were exhausted.  On the 3rd play that was a perfectly thrown ball to Jimmy Horn. The defender has an obvious pass interference at the top of the route to knock him off path. If that contact doesn't happen, that would have been a big play. It drops perfectly in his hands similar to the TD pass to Coker. And they were in man, so he would have had room to run. Refs missed that one. You could even see the defender kind of waiting for the flag that never came. He knew it too.  The last play was 100% on Jimmy. You see him actually set up to catch the ball out in front with his hands. Little shuffle in there to time it just like he wanted it. Could have just come back to the ball, as there was very little zip on that pass. I think Bryce kind of aimed it instead of just letting it rip and it died on him downfield. Or as others suggested just slide and body catch it to make sure you don't miss it. He's young and hadn't caught a pass all game. Probably would have been better if Coker was in that spot.  This is just a young team. I really think they'll be fine next season. Jimmy can be that guy. He gets separation on crossing routes every time. Guys just can't keep up with him. Gain a little trust and chemistry with Young and he can get in the offense. Not real hopeful for XL. Come on dude. We're counting on you.
    • Not even sure what qbr is. Goeff has the 3rd highest QB rating at around 115 but has the 18th worse qbr rating at 57. Sam Darnold is even worse at 56. Hell, it qbr ranks Spencer Rattler as a better QB than Shough (24th and 25th respectively). Something seriously does not add up. For what it is worth, 4 of the first six teams the Panthers played had defenses ranked 26th through 32nd while 4 of the last 6 teams they played were ranked in the top 10 in defense. So they played tougher defenses and had higher completion percentages, higher yrds/rec, higher TD % and lower int %. Not sure how you can improve in all those areas against better teams and have the same qbr. Odd. https://sumersports.com/teams/defensive/
