to be honest, shaq thompson only had 1 elite year, and thats this year. wanting him to be traded was a fair assessment because up until now neither he nor donte was producing. donte got better and shaq, i believe the coaches are choosing to play him like he played in college : linebacker who plays like a safety. smart decision.

How was he supposed to get playing time when Luke and TD were on the field? When he finally did get a chance to regularly start, he had to line up next to Luke behind one of the worst defensive line performances we've seen on the field.

Follow that up with a new staff and it's no surprise that casual observers are just now starting to appreciate what Shaq brings to the table.

when you're on the field, theres always space to make plays, shaq didn't. look at chinn, he was a rookie and he was outplaying shaq last year, thats facts. luke did all the work and shaq mainly followed behind him. luke would literally be telling players where to go and what to do. i get it though, i don't think coaches played shaq to his strengths up until now.

This is why scheme is so important to understand along with the personnel available. Shaq was playing next to Tahir Whitehead last season. Chinn was being lined up all over the defense. One was put next to a cavernous hole on the defense and the other was put in positions to make a play on the ball. Shaq's rookie season? Ron Rivera demanded that he be the buffalo nickel.

Luke was the leader of this defense and... well... there's no shame in being second fiddle to him. I see a lot of comparisons to Kuechly as if it shows that Shaq isn't that good when in actuality that attests to how solid he is.

The fact that the coaches are now finally starting to get more out of Shaq's versatility rather than forcing him to be the buffalo nickel is a welcome sight.

If teams regularly get into and past the second level of the defense with rushing plays, the problem is your MLB.

A MLB must be able to diagnose both offensive line push, backs movement, play calling tendency and be able to react to the breakdown of the defensive line on every play. That's the hardest, most cerebral job on the defense.

MLB, more than any other position on the entire team, has been the feature the Panthers have been known for throughout their existence, from Luke on back. The absence of such a guy is pretty glaring.

I can't tell with out all 22. Which Dlinemen were in? Scheme and personnel matter in this conversation. I love the Burns & Riddick combo but it looks lite up front at times this year.

Also, what about moving Chinn back to roaming LBer and out of Safety? Just put a CB in his spot and let Chinn come back up with Shaq on the 2nd level.

I don't know how bad or ok Carter is playing, the scheme looks off at times where the matchups are not looking very favorable.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
