I appreciate your perspective but Fletch will always be the guy we took instead of Trey Smith. He also looked horrible pre-season before he got “injured.”

Wasn’t he like a 5th or 6th round pick? That means alot of teams passed on Trey Smith, multiple times.  Fletch may be a reliable starter next year.  He might not.  He’s a late round pick…no harm no foul

I have no idea why Smith fell so far. Most draft pundits had him going as early as the 2nd, 4th at the worst. They were better than NFL talent evaluators in this case.

Our offensive line is an abomination. We didn’t need to pass on Smith who dropped in the draft due to blood clot issues. Our attitude heading into the draft was that we had fixed all of our problems and took luxury players instead of filling needs. Fletcher looked horrible and was a wasted pick, while Trey Smith has looked solid starting for the Chiefs.

    • I had a serious knee injury that stretched ligaments and tendons but no tears miraculously. 30 years later it still isn't right and I'm a bigger guy. I've read about that surgery, damn, and I don't know how you intentionally keep that much weight on your body and trust that thing to hold up under the load of a full NFL season. It took years for me to trust mine and I still don't 100%, especially laterally.
    • Dan has done a good enough job on this roster we’re in a decent spot to just take BPA at any of our positions of need. I imagine we resign Nijman regardless
    • I don’t much care if Rico leaves, I only ever saw it as a one year stay.  I feel like we can go into camp with what we have minus Rico plus Brooks. If Brooks doesn’t look good enough early to compliment Chuba, there will be guys out there to fill in. And we don’t know what Etienne will look like, maybe he can step up and we won’t need as much to take up Brooks’ slack.  I suppose the long shot outcome is Brooks looks great and then you are down to whether you want to trust the repair job holding up.  the main thing to me is to take care of the OL because they are your run game.
