I mean.  It might actually make more sense to wait until next year to look for a candidate.  People might hate to hear it, but at this rate, the Panthers could potentially be one of very few teams looking for a new HC next year.  We could conceivably have our pick of the litter.

That coming, of course, after another year of Rhule damage and destruction.

Pardon me, but I will never understand the “just wait and let him do even MORE damage!” reasoning.

And no, this is not me defending Rhule.  Just me being rational.  Very good chance we have a better opportunity to nab a great candidate next year than this year.

My worry is that some of the best candidates get jobs this year and we lose out.

Nathaniel Hackett is one. And I'm starting to take a closer look at Mike McDaniel too.

No argument, while also wasting a year our players won't get back.

Seriously, at this point Im Ok with Rhule and Darnold being our tank commanders for the next season.  We're gonna be poo regardless.  So, do what they can to build the o line this coming off-season, led Sam and Matt do what they do best - namely lose football games, and set us up to get Bryce Young or CJ Stroud in the following draft for our brand new head coach. Gonna be shitty to watch next year, but at least it should set us up for success moving forward.  We do have tons of cap space the following 2 years as it stands now.

You know how things work here, though.

They'll win just enough to keep us from getting the guy who would do us the most good.

Part of the reason he's not firing Rhule could be for this reason. The Panthers are near the bottom in terms of desirable head coaching destinations.

Do we credit David Tepper with having enough football intelligence to think of things like this, though?

I know I don't.

Arrogance, pettiness and foolish pride, on the other hand, I think he has loads of those.

Means nothing when you can't hire talent.

Excited to see which mid-major college coach who once worked at Waffle House will be the next man in charge

If you want to see it that way, then go ahead.

I'm merely stating that it is quite possible Tepper feels it is worth keeping Rhule another season to ensure attracting a better candidate next year, when he will have less teams to compete with for a HC's service.

I think he's smart enough to do a cost benefit analysis. He would be competing against a quarter of the NFL for a new head coach right now. Firing Matt Rhule right now would cost him tens of millions and the Panthers have a poorly built roster. Tepper saves millions rolling with Rhule for one more season and could end up with the #1 overall draft pick next season and a more attractive head coaching destination.

It's not farfetched to think that's the reason plain and simple. Rhule sucks but Tepper might be willing to swallow another losing season to save money now and compete for a better head coach next offseason. There's good head coaching candidates every year.

Possible. But in doing so, he screws over fans, staff and players who have to deal with another year of Rhule's incompetence.

Nobody's getting that time back.

I think at this point it's safe to say David Tepper doesn't give a f*ck about what the fans think.

We haven't heard a peep out of him in months and that guy loves to hear himself talk. You have to think he's embarrassed and he's not someone who is used to dealing with that. His silence says it all to me.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
