TRACKING THE STORYLINES:

About Last Night: Just like their 7-1 victory Tuesday in Boston, the Canes got off to a strong start Friday versus New York. Carolina held the Rangers to just four shots in the opening 20 minutes, suffocating them with a possession-based attack. Vincent Trocheck and Seth Jarvis helped their team establish an early lead and then thanks to Frederik Andersen they were able to hold off a few pushback attempts. Eventually Jesper Fast, Sebastian Aho, Nino Niederreiter and Tony DeAngelo were able to also crack Alexandar Georgiev and the Canes moved to the top spot in the Metro.

Same-Day Travel: The Canes were supposed to head straight from PNC Arena to RDU Friday night, however, the airport was closed due to weather conditions after a plane went off the runway just hours earlier. So, the players and staff returned to their North Carolina bases and the team instead is scheduled to fly to New Jersey this morning.

Tony's Tear: Tony DeAngelo had three points in last night's victory over New York, just as he did Tuesday night against Boston. With those six he's now upped his season total to 31 points in 30 games, pacing all Canes defenseman. That total also has him ranked seventh in the NHL among all defenseman in points per game played.

Lineup Options: Post-game Friday Rod Brind'Amour did not commit to a starting goaltender for tonight. With Frederik Andersen having played in the win over the Rangers, logic would suggest that it would either be Antti Raanta or Jack LaFontaine. Raanta, who has made his way back from an upper-body injury, backed up Tuesday in Boston. LaFontaine, who has yet to make his first NHL start, backed up last night against New Jersey. Beyond goaltending, the status of Teuvo Teravainen, who left after two periods last night with a lower-body injury, is unknown. He may play tonight, but if he does not, Stefan Noesen, is available from the team's Taxi Squad.

    • No, both instances of references to the defense were specific to the run defense.  I should have said "run defense" the 2nd time.  You admit there has been ample personal issue but then use those stats to support your argument. I'm not arguing on the effectiveness of his specific scheme overall.  I'm saying he is only now getting the proper personal to run his scheme.  The stats are the stats and while I don't disagree with any of what you're saying, 3 years of those stats are based on the Panthers front office not giving him the tools to run a competitive NFL defense until this year with D. Brown getting healthy and the additional of Tre'von Moehrig. I want to see his defense when we don't have multiple key starter positions manned with players who would IMHO are not starting level players.  With some talent  I say all this while not being a big fan of his scheme.  I would prefer a 4-3 but that's neither here or there. And yes, I would call getting requests and interviews from other teams who want to hire him good evidence that he may be a pretty good DC and has a lot of potential as a HC. In 2022 he had HC requests from the Broncos, Colts, and Texans.  He also had requests for DC from the Vikings, Falcons and the Panthers.  We hired him to be our DC. In 2023 it was the Falcons, Raiders and Seahawks for a HC position. In 2024 the Falcons, Seahawks and the Panthers interviewd him for HC.  We blocked the Jags from a DC interview. In 2025 (which is this years hiring cycle) so far its the Falcons, Raiders and just today the Steelers, all for the HC position.
    • The Giants still may be crap but they just improved somewhat by hiring Harbaugh,
    • Yeah I was almost going to mention the finger but he did so well last week after whatever they did to it at halftime I let it go. It could get hit and messed up worse, it is a weak point.    Weather and home field crowd in Chicago are huge challenges no doubt. I can’t really be confident in LA but the inexperience of Chicago in a game with this stuff at stake is likely to be a factor, enough to make it hard to be confident in them. So who knows….
