You really whining about this -- https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/phillip-walker-22025/

$895,000 to have a back up QB for CHEAP knowing that there are other cap allocations needed elsewhere?

The PJ extension shouldn't even garner attention, we have a back up the end; yet people were freaking out like they set some kind of record retaining him.

Whining? He would be fighting for a 2nd or 3rd string spot on any other teams roster if he didn't go to Temple and you know it. Appreciate the input 👍

And any other backup is likely to be just as bad but cost more so...appreciate the input 🤫

Not to mention that is a non-guaranteed contract there's no dead money tied to it. So uhhhh yea good talk my guy 🤙

It's literally non cap impactful no matter what happens, but at the very least you have the position accounted for. Or would you rather a more experienced, more expensive, still shitty back up...oh wait that's Darnold

Why are you so pressed over a former XFL QB? I didn’t want Sam Darnold and I'd love to get a real QB in here but we have donkeys for management who are scared to develop a rookie.

No need to risk it either and be stuck with just Tremble and not other receiving threat at the position. People forget Ian looked pretty good back in 2018 filling in for an injured Olsen. Kyle, Teddy, and Darnold seemed to rarely look his way, not to mention the Brady offense seemed to devalue that position as a read.

If you have to go back 4 years to find a few good plays for a player then that player is not good and has overstayed his usefulness by at least 2 years.

OTC has the breakdown of the Ian Thomas contract: https://overthecap.com/player/ian-thomas/6986/

In short, Ian is counting ~$3.1M vs the cap this season and his last season is not likely to be earned as it's mostly (non-guaranteed) salary. To me, this contract reads like a 2-year $11.5 million dollar deal with a team option for a 3rd year. For the curious he can be cut before the start of the league year in 2023 for a small cap savings (~1.4M).

With the context that 3 TEs (Njoku, Gesicki, Shultz) have been franchised tagged, this deal may end up looking reasonable. IMO the biggest benefit is we didn't sign a FA TE to a similar contract and possibly cancel out a comp pick.

OK not as bad as originally thought, but still Thomas has done absolutely nothing in his time here to show that hes worth any more than the NFL veteran minimum.  Hell, we drafted a guy to replace him in the 3rd round last year who showed a lot of promise.

    • I mean I'd like to add a monster TE as much as anyone else but ultimately what use will that serve with a QB who had 54 passing yards in 4 quarters at one point last season? Defense defense defense.
    • Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker.  The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon.
    • I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis.  He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19.
