Fitterer and Morgan's personnel moves this offseason really seem to be clicking.

If we don't improve this year, you'd have a tough time blaming it on the roster.

(quarterback issues outstanding, of course)

Defense was never really the problem and definitely not the reason we went 5-12.
If we don’t get that man under center and line figured out it won’t matter how well the defense played.
Personally I thought the defense was very overrated and not a top 5 defense and occasionally not a top 10.
Miami and Washington games were atrocious.

Defense wasn't as good as we made it out to be though.

We had the personnel (mostly) but Snow's schemes got figured out early. Didn't take massive adjustments to blunt his approach either. Basically just go run heavy and keep extra blockers back on passing downs and you had us.

Hoping Al Holcomb and Steve Wilks can help with that this season.

If we are going after another defensive player... I have a feeling Tepper called Scott last night and said:

"Go get me a defense that will make Watson's Sunday endings not so happy..."

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
