Matt Rhule's head is to large.

Sounds funny doesn't it? Matt Rhule's head is to large. And this is a physical and metaphorical statement all in one. The guy just focuses on so many things that are stupid. I can't fathom how he made it to a 70+ million dollar contract (cough tepper is too bald cough cough). I'm trying to be optimistic as always. But man, how do these guys manage to look like morons week in, and week out?

Here.

Read the bottom of this article. I posted it in another thread but felt it was worthy of it's own post.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.golfdigest.com/story/kenny-pickett-handsize-pitt-pro-day-carolina-panthers-nfl/amp

The fact that our FO really thinks hand size is an indicator of success and spend their time focusing their attention to such a thing is just asinine. This obsession with the "measurables" has gone to far. With All-pro oline being skipped over bc their arm length. And now this? At what point can we move on from RHULE because his head is to big? At this point I'll take any excuse possible.

It could only take someone with an awfully inflated confidence(head) to legitimately look at a college QB who has broken Dan Marino's passing records and question his hand size.

And to be fair, after teddy I'm against any QB that has to wear two gloves to play the position but that's just because I have trust issues. And these guys are the one who signed Poowater in the first place. Hand issues didn't seem to matter then did it?

I'm at my wits end. I sincerely apologize for the rant. But at least I feel better now that it's off my chest. And hey, we signed a couple lineman worth a poo. That way our extra large handed QB we sign or start can not be fearful for his life every down on Sundays.

Lord Help us.

If I was in their position, I would've been at the pro day as part of a smokescreen effort but I would've given myself away when I dosed off in the stands as he was throwing.

At least sleep rejuvenates the soul. These guys are wondering if double jointed fingers would be a game changer in a circle jerk.

To be fair it's a stupid post. Also it's not a typo if done more than once.

To be fair. I'm not a journalist. And this is a discussion board. I do my best on this small phone I have. If you would like I would be more than happy to send you a more grammatically correct version too you personally. If I need 2.

But thanks for the observation.

You are talking to a community that has developed hatred for him because of handsome.

Either way measurables and personality are alot of what scouting is about this time of year. These seem like Halloween criticisms of Rhule when real ones are plenty.

Sure they have their place. But when you focus more on the length of a guys finger, than his ability to read defenses on film. Or his likelihood to fit into your scheme it does make one wonder how on earth a professional coach could be caught on film paying this much attention to such a minor detail.

If he were a pro with the major details in order it would be one thing. Maybe even something to applaud..but the product on the field says differently and maybe his approach is a cause for concern when scouting talent and putting the right players on the field.

I'm neither pro-Pickett or anti-Pickett here, but is it really just our FO that's obsessed with measurables?  The entire league and national media have picked up this story and ran with it.  I'm not defending Rhule or anyone else here, but an article on Golfdigest.com written with extremely sarcastic undertones isn't going to make me feel bad about Rhule.  Like someone else previously said, there are plenty of others reason to dislike Rhule.

You think Rhule is the only coach/scout/GM that looked into Pickett’s hand size? After such a big deal was made about it prior to and at the combine?

I get critiquing Rhule over passing on a guy like Slater (I still like the Horn pick), but creating issues over nothing just to complain gets old. Everyone has been talking hand size with Pickett.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
