I'm going to be Honest.. I don't think any Qb you draft this year is assured to beat out Darnold for the job anyway...

you can’t “make smart moves” if you’re trying to equate the value of a quarterback to a ancillary position like tackle

there will be another half dozen “all world tackles” in the next draft, and the one after that, and the one after that. 

opportunities to take the 1st QB off the board are rare

They have three options besides the draft.

JImmy G., Baker, and  possibly Minshew. Jimmy G. (meh...shoulder problems..not thrilled), Baker (coming off surgery and looks like he is a pain in the ass to deal with), and Minshew (if they can get him for a lower draft pick).

Out of the three, I personally think Minshew is the way to go.

LT is 1 step down form QB.. So let's not act like it's a under valued position..

Jimmy G is hurt now and has proven to be either injury prone or just a Game Manager.. That you still will have to Pay over 25 million for and give up more assets to get...

Baker is no different then Sam.. His locker room Hates him.. He has 1 year left on his rookie real.. He is no leader and it would be no different then keeping Sam..

Philly isn't giving up Minshew for cheap if at all  so ppl can stop with this.. They know he is a top level Backup and they don't truly trust their starter.. So Minshew isn't going anywhere unless you give up top assets for that philly can't refuse.. And you would be doing that for Minshew?? Really??

it isn’t. Edge rushers and even press-man corners are more valuable than left tackles in the current NFL where the ball is coming out faster than ever before and QBs are asked to contribute with their mobility, not as a last resort, but as a necessary and ideal trait.  Competent tackles are far easier to find than the players who check all those boxes.
 

Sign a decent veteran OT, every single season, a rotating door of decent players, and your ceiling is the same.  There’s no such thing  as a “franchise” left tackle, no impetus to get “our guy” at that spot, no additional value to doing so. It’s an illusion driven by a dated approach to football from back when building a super bowl team meant lining up your top 5 running back behind an elite LT and dArInG ThEM tO StOp It.

but that isn’t the way things are now.

Because 1 team traded 3 draft picks to replace him and the other team traded picks and paid a guy (facing 22 civil lawsuits) 230 million guaranteed to get rid of him..

Nah. LT is probably the most important guy on the oline (center is very key though), but almost as important as the QB? No single player is even close to the importance of the QB. You can scheme around a poor LT, but you aren't winning with a poor QB. You can win a SB with an average LT. It's very difficult to win a SB with an average QB and forget about a poor one.

A meaningful swing at QB is immensely more valuable than any “sure” thing you can add to your roster elsewhere 

 

if you told me I had to spend my next three 1st round picks on QBs, and that one one would be a great player (and the other two would not), that approach would be infinitely preferable to simply hoping to get the best guy with one swing based on grade and “getting” to add great tackles or whatever, at any other position, in the other two years

the impact of that position dwarfs any benefit brought to me by any other spot on the field

      Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.

      The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
