Why would you trade away a young player for that?  What's the point?  Hes off the books after this season.  We already have plenty of cap for this offseason, I'm not sure why they would trade away a young player to have more.  Just let him walk after this season if it comes to all that.

Even if you don't use it you can carry it over.

And what’s the plan with that $$?

all the top guys in FA are gone that would require you to open space for.

trading away a young player Just to get Darnold off your books for 1 years is 2010-2018 Browns esq.  That’s what bad organizations do.

It does seem like cutting your nose off to spite your face kind of thing.

So they ship Darnold and a "young player" plus half Sam's salary most likely to do what?

They would be left with PJ Walker and two vacant roster spots at QB to fill. With meager FA pickings and word they are reportedly not taking one in the draft I just don't see a plan here. It's like Watson was the only plan they had.  He was plan A thru Z.

I'm going to have to stock up on popcorn.

I must admit I'm not really familiar with how all that works.  Only a small percentage of it carries over right?   It doesnt seem worth trading a young player away.  Just take the 18m free next year.

I'm assuming it wouldn't be a young star player. Honestly, it was probably just Sheena throwing mud at the wall.

Most of them are. Pickett is the age of a lot of kids coming out of grad school. He always looked very mediocre until he was a lot older and a lot more experienced than his competition. Huge red flag.

Pickett is literally 1 year and 1 day younger than Sam. He's at his peak/reached his ceiling physically. I'm not sold on him throwing against a bunch of 20 year old Troy Pride/Darryl Worley level talent. He's like a meeting Sam and Teddy in the middle, that's my pro comp

Wrong. He's over two years older than Howell.

Pickett was born in September 1998, Howell June 2000.

* Oh wait, sorry you meant Darnold. Disregard.

Honestly, my pro comp is a poor man's Alex Smith. The physical tools are intriguing but then you watch him play and the whole is a lot less than the sum of the parts. Nothing pops in the game. He's just a guy out there.

It's not even a discussion in my opinion..

It took Pickett 5 years to produce a season better then Howell worst season...

Sometimes an athlete can put things together years later into his career. I grew up an avid fan of MLB history. I was always intrigued by Sandy Koufax. His W-L as a Dodger pitcher was 36-40 in his first SIX SEASONS.

Over the next 6 seasons he went 129-47 and he won 3 CY Young Awards. Sometimes things just click later for some people than others. 🤔

I was with you until you said Mayfield.

less of a want and more of an expectation, honestly. hell, the browns might even want Darnold as a temporary starter if Watson faces supplemental discipline from the league or isn't reinstated. stranger things have happened. both teams don't want to pay these guys.

Yeah I think on the right team could be Alex Smith lite but with Rhule he's more of a Blaine Gabbert

Evidently in our talks with the Browns we wanted them to pay a chunk of his salary like we did with Teddy trading him to Denver. That wouldn't be a bad deal to kick the tires. I just think the guy's cockiness is getting in the way and I'm not sure that's fixable. All QBs worth anything walk a fine line between cocky and confident but Baker is on the wrong side of it IMO.

    • It's amazing how much yall can say the same things over and over and not annoy yourselves with it.
    • If you only look at measurables, Mingo and Legette might seem similar.  But when you actually look at them and watch them play, they aren't close to the same.   And this is coming from someone who is skeptical about Legette, although ultimately I believe he will work out.  I've just always disagreed with the comparisons to Mingo.   Mingo tests better than he plays/runs, whereas Legette plays/runs as well as he tests.
    • As bad as things were with the Panthers last year, we still had 4 other games outside of the 2 we won that we came very close to winning.  Could throw the Falcons game in there too, it was tied going into the 4th. I'm not really sure what to expect this year.  I don't think we'll make the playoffs.  However, we play in a very weak division where no team has a standout QB.  On paper, our OL should be good, and could be great if Ikem improves.  That alone could help mask a lot of problems on offense.  Should allow us to run the ball better.  Even if Bryce doesn't improve, the OL should at the very least give him more time to make the easy throws underneath and let a guy like Legette work his magic after the catch. And I think this defense in a 2nd year with Evero should, at the very least, be in the top 16.  I'm expecting our run defense to be as good as it has been in years. I think this team could push for 7-8 wins.  But it could also finish with 2 wins again.  That is just how the league works.  Jets offense was miserable last year, and yet they still won 7 games.   We won't really get a good feel of it until after the preseason, and even then, who knows.
