Fitterer on Quarterbacks and regrets

if you find a QB in the 3rd, yeah, keep swinging, but a football team will not prosper or even survive using 1st round picks each year on a QB.

So is he telling us he will trade down and pick up Ridder in the 2nd?  Or someone else in the 3rd?

I’m arguing that Darnold was seen as a talented QB in a bad situation under Adam Gase just like Ryan Tannehill. There were other teams that were willing to take a chance on him thinking if he got put into a situation with better coaching and players around him he could be successful. It didn’t work out, but I don’t think it was a horrible decision. The Panthers just didn’t hedge their bet.

To Tannehills defense he never looked as bad as Darnold did. So him improving a lot when he was traded to the Titans wasn’t that big of a surprise.
He was just constantly injured in Miami.

The hip thing to do last spring was shriek Adam Gase's name anytime a hint of doubt was expressed about Sam. It was always entirely possible and likely both he and Sam were bad but you couldn't talk some into that. With Tannehill he at least looked competent as a passer early on. But honestly even he is being overrated in comparison to Darnold to make Sam look less bad.

If we had traded a 2nd, 4th, and 6th for just one year of Darnold that would have sounded just as horrendous, lose/lose situation from the start

It's a horrendous situation if you put him behind that dogshit OLine and then provide the new QB with a good OLine. That's a hatchet job.

I agree with Fitterer. If we were going to give up 3 number 1 picks and several others plus guarantee 230 million  for Watson you can pick a first round QB for the next 3 years and still save picks, players and a ton of money. Finding your QB even if it takes multiple attempts is crucially important and can't be ignored. The last winning season was the last year Cam had a good year. I hope it wouldn't take 3 or 4 swings to hit on a QB but if it did then so be it...
