Apparently the refs today had been told don’t call a single penalty either. A couple of serious high sticks in this game so far and nothing. Plus the litany of non calls in our game.

We got a way with a couple of cross checks and hooks. The ranger is definitely got a way with a couple of interferences / roughings. The refs definitely missed calls, but they did it pretty equally in my opinion, which I can live with

Plus that blatant trip on TDA. Not that we aren’t guilty I’m not saying we aren't(but also it’s a bonus to keep us out of the box because we can’t make your best players run up and down the ice chasing the puck.) but I mean that was Textbook tripping.

A combination of fair weather hockey fandom and being conditioned by the Carolina Panthers to expect the worst.

Eh, you can’t even compare the two anymore. The panthers are a farm team. I have no faith in them to do anything with Rhule, perhaps Tepper.

Fandom-wise, most people in here are true canes fans… most.

National announcers talking about how the Canes were headed for being shut out for the 3rd time this year when Aho scored.   Glad he shut that fool up.....

The boys need to know they are fighting against the media, league, and ref sentiment.  It's the Canes vs. the world.....and we need to play like it.  Every night.

Shut down for a third time in one year? Now I got what your saying. Did we really only get shut out twice in the regular season?

We had four shutout losses this season Washington, Columbus, Detroit and to NY.

That's pretty good tied for 3rd least...  Florida and Colorado tied for the best at 2.

So glad the ghost of Gordie Howe possessed Ian Cole on that goal. It's the only explanation I can think of

When you roll with young players poo like that happens. The Rangers remind me of us two years ago. Young, fast, and sometimes prone to mistakes.

So, here's what was going on with the lines. The reason for the shuffle became apparent in the 3rd period. If you liked at the time on ice for the Aho and Trocheck thru the first 2 periods, it wasn't their usual. But, keep in mind, the Rangers only goal came from their 3rd line. The matchups were dictated by RBA and it was evident come the 3rd period when the top 2 lines worth of fresh legs started flying up and down the ice. I'd really like to see the TOI per player-per period.

Jesperi, Domi and Lorentz only had about 10 minutes on the ice last night. Staal's line led the way with the Trocheck and Aho line coming alive in the 3rd. The Rangers were gassed after having the Staal and Jesperi  lines wear on them for 40 minutes- that's why you saw a different team hit the ice in the third. And where were the Rangers top guys? Fox, Kreider, Panarin, Zibanejad... yeah, they got shut down.

It was insanity in PNC last night. Despite the score being 1-0 Rangers, I think the few NY fans in attendance were surprised just how much noise can come from fans who are behind on the scoreboard. The Aho goal blew the roof off the place, just as we were nail-biting, looking at the clock and wondering how soon RBA was gonna pull Raanta for an extra.

OT didn't start all that well, either. Took a lot of grinding to get out of the Rangers O-zone and Raanta was looking a little frazzled.

14 shots after 2 periods for the Canes wasn't going to win the game. Meanwhile, the Rangers had 23 thru the first 2 periods- well above their average. But, come the third period, Carolina put 10 shots on net, while holding NY to just 4. Carolina was fairly even in the face-off circle, but, again, dominated the 3rd period.

That's it- a tale of 2 games- the first 40 and the last 23, including OT. It was a wild night in PNC, folks. Glad I took today off...

Good write up!  My body hurts today after that game. Need a blow out winner Friday night.

    • It's amazing how much yall can say the same things over and over and not annoy yourselves with it.
    • If you only look at measurables, Mingo and Legette might seem similar.  But when you actually look at them and watch them play, they aren't close to the same.   And this is coming from someone who is skeptical about Legette, although ultimately I believe he will work out.  I've just always disagreed with the comparisons to Mingo.   Mingo tests better than he plays/runs, whereas Legette plays/runs as well as he tests.
    • As bad as things were with the Panthers last year, we still had 4 other games outside of the 2 we won that we came very close to winning.  Could throw the Falcons game in there too, it was tied going into the 4th. I'm not really sure what to expect this year.  I don't think we'll make the playoffs.  However, we play in a very weak division where no team has a standout QB.  On paper, our OL should be good, and could be great if Ikem improves.  That alone could help mask a lot of problems on offense.  Should allow us to run the ball better.  Even if Bryce doesn't improve, the OL should at the very least give him more time to make the easy throws underneath and let a guy like Legette work his magic after the catch. And I think this defense in a 2nd year with Evero should, at the very least, be in the top 16.  I'm expecting our run defense to be as good as it has been in years. I think this team could push for 7-8 wins.  But it could also finish with 2 wins again.  That is just how the league works.  Jets offense was miserable last year, and yet they still won 7 games.   We won't really get a good feel of it until after the preseason, and even then, who knows.
