Cash over cap the myth of salary cap

So we all kinda knew there wasn’t somthen right about the salary cap how teams resign or sign players. see saints … now look at the rams

if you watch any pat Mcfee recent shows on the topic it’s becoming very clear cap is a clever ploy to pay the players less then worth… cash rich owner get to sign anybody to whatever they won’t … but cashless owners have to play the salary cap game 

 

with this all said Tepper now the 2nd richest owner in the league … why are we 1 or 2nd in the league in cap space ? I know we are rebuilding but I don’t want to hear about we can’t afford player A … that’s all smoke and Mirrors … pay the men there moneys

Spending wildly in free agency isn't how you build a team, it's how you elevate a built team to the next level. Even with the cap being smoke and mirrors, the backbone of your franchise needs to be a pool of cheap and elite talent that you draft initially. That gives you a few years to build a franchise on the backs of much cheaper labor.

Once you start handing out those second contracts to your guys(which we already have), you need to be winning and contending before you start going for broke on mass free agent signings. That is how you attract top players that want to win. Success as a team brings that.

The Panthers aren't in that position. We are regarded as one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL and we haven't had a winning record in 4 seasons. Why would any quality free agent want to come here(and they haven't)?

So, without that we are left paying vastly over market value just to attract those players(which won't work on all of them). That's also historically how bad teams stay bad for a long time. 

We are basically where we should be. Building through the draft to a winning team. Once that core is built and winning starts(not under Rhule, quite obviously), then you start to make those splash free agency signings. When we are an attractive spot to make a Super Bowl run.

I couldn't agree more. I am not against the Loomis cap formula when you have the young core and a staff that is at the beginning of their winning window. I just think it is stupid to go full throttle when you are losing and wasting the cap you could spend on good free agents on what we blew it on last year (this year being unknown yet) while carring that dead weight forward unnecessarily. Bad teams have to overpay for much less quality and using the Loomis formula on that is just a face palm to me.

We're not even ready to spend. By contrast the Hornets are in the position you speak of. Spending on a big FA and coach may take that young team to the next level or beyond.

The Panthers need to see if Corral is their LaMelo desperately. I think they're once again behaving stupidly like they can get a FA QB or play Darnold in front of him. I think his contract hasn't been signed because Corrals agent wants to call that bluff. It's total BS. 

Stop wasting time. Commit to Matt Corral now. There isn't a better option for us in free agency or on the roster.

Go ahead, stop BS'ing and put some extra sugar on the man's contract. We all know he shouldn't have fell to the third. He knows it. We know it. Act like it. Show some love.

Jerry would spend every other year. Reward partners then "try", repeat. He's light-years ahead of Appaloser in football but we saw how annoying one step forward two steps back could be.

He used the yearly cap increase stalling in a year to justify that approach but it has never happened...yet. It would almost be comical if it did one year let alone multiple years in a row. It just doesn't look like a right now issue.

If I recall in that segment you can’t just throw money at players that don’t perform. The issue arises when you have to part with the player using this method. Players you know will be in the team for a while are fine with this method…middle of the road guys not so much.

The cap is real. The issue is viewing as a 1-year limit when it's really you have X cap over Y years. 

For example, if you assume $200M cap for the next 5 seasons then you can spend up to $1B ($200M x 5) on players this season as long as you are comfortable they will all be on your roster in year 5.
