You mean our next coach? Prediction time...I believe 100% that if Rhule is fired this year, Sean Payton will be our next coach which means we will get to crack all sorts of pill head jokes on that scum bag week after week which could be fun.

I really, really hope not.

Baker is a hell of a lot more exciting than what we had going into last season, and I want you to be right. And I could see a world where you are...  we have so many great pieces and possibly the most talented/deepest roster from top to bottom that we have ever fielded...  yet, I think Rhule is too much to overcome.

It depends on how much of a voice guys like Wilks and McAdoo have in the room and on gameday. If their presence is significant, we might shock a lot of people.

This offense has the chance to be really, really good. CMCs gotta stay healthy.

That’s an incredibly naive way to look at it

There is that, but that wouldn't be my main concern.

Guys who produce championship seasons with one team and then move on to another hardly ever reproduce their success. More often than not, they fail to recapture whatever magic was there before.

Also, from what I've read the Saints still have his rights and would want him back, so I have a feeling getting him might require a trade package that makes the Deshaun Watson deal look like child's play.

Beyond that, Payton might want an awful lot of control. And while I acknowledge he's more qualified to ask for something like that than Matt Rhule would be, I'm still not up for it.

To top it all off, he'd have to want to come here. Several stories written over the years have had him wanting to coach the Cowboys, not us.

It's just not something I see happening, and I'm genuinely not sure I would want it to.

No it's not. Principles matter. How many coaches have been suspended by the NFL for a year for grossly violating the spirit of the game?

I'll save you the effort. Two. Sean Payton and his DC Gregg Williams for Bountygate.

Yeah they’re the only ones that got caught

    • im a big believer in strong  o lines in general and really strong  olines for not so strong  QBs and we have one if those not so strong  QBs, plus with one LT done for the year and another that is aging with knee issues, a versatile tackle, on a rookie contract for the second most important position on the team, is a good thing    from cat crave Dean Jones    “If Francis Mauigoa (Miami) made it this far down the pecking order, it would be a difficult proposition to turn down.   The Miami prospect might not have the prototypical length associated with premier offensive tackles, but you wouldn't know it. His pass protection is exceptional, which is matched by a strong base on running plays and enough athleticism to make a difference at the second level when opportunities arise. Mauigoa can play either tackle with ease. This makes him a short-term replacement for Ekwonu and a potential long-term successor to Moton. And if fans don't think this is possible in the first round, they haven't been paying close enough attention.”   Excerpt From “Carolina Panthers 7-round 2026 NFL mock draft: Pushing forward edition” Cat Crave https://apple.news/AYEo7NKteR6mIGHtthRnzZQ This material may be protected by copyright.
    • I don't know their cap situation, but if they're able to pick up Malik Willis or Mac Jones, they could be trouble. Hell, they were only one game worse than us last year. If Cousins had played all season, who knows?
    • I think it is funny that we label coaches without considering their circumstances.  Bill Belichick has a .449 winning percentage as a head coach when Tom Brady was not under center.  He will be a Hall of Fame coach. Stephanski, on the other hand, was asked to function in the shadow of the Watson crippling signing, one that he opposed (as it came out recently).  I am not quite sure what to think of him, but I am not dismissing him as a bad coach.  He had the worst situation in the NFL the entire time he worked there.  Frustrations mounted between him and the players over the six years he was there, but the dysfunction was manufactured in the front office.
