BS: IF There's A Team That COULD Be This Year's Version Of The 2021 Bengals, It's The Carolina Panthers

why does anyone care about negative posting? it's always been the case that when people aren't optimistic and voice their opinion about the team that those superfans that are always optimistic feel it necessary to go after those who aren't. sooo...why care? why the crusade to attack all the fans that don't feel good about the team? i mean do the superfans get any brownie points for being defenders of the cause?

I could care less about negative posting.  Overreacting (like calling a player a bust after a preseason game, crying our season is ruined when our forth string project QB goes on IR) will get mocked by me.  It goes both ways too.  Saying Matt Corral is the next Aaron Rodgers will also get mocked.  If anyone is trying to crusade against every negative posting they will never get a moment's rest as a majority of posts will be negative given the state of our franchise (and rightfully so).  The comment that was in question by @TheCasillaswas a poster mocking positive fans and telling them to "stfu."  People will have different expectations and opinions which is what keeps the board going, but getting upset about a fan being optimistic just seems odd to me.  It's like the whole I'm not happy so no one else can be!

Even under Stefanski, (Bakers) average intended air yards ranked top five in the NFL over the past two seasons.

You may be thinking by this point, "Yeah but the whole premise of this blog falls apart because Baker is nowhere NEAR Joe Burrow's level!" Remember what was going down prior to Week 1 of 2021? Joey B. was coming off a brutal knee injury and very few expected him to even be recovered to play by then, much less make it through the season behind his awful offensive line — much less suddenly transform into a top-five QB and spark a Super Bowl run! So yeah, Burrow is better than Baker, but that doesn't render this entire, larger narrative irrelevant. The Panthers have different team strengths than the Bengals did, namely an outstanding defense.

Panthers have the Bengals OL of 2020.

Panthers don't have a Chase type WR in the clutch.

Baker is no where near Burrow when it comes to GWD ability.

Panthers defense doesn't have proven defenders who can produce turnovers.

Far from a Bengals 2021 or either Panthers SB losing teams. Why would we even hope to be SB losers? SB and dynasty is always the goal, or don't bother showing up on game day imo.

We are hoping for a Rams 1999 miracle season. The pieces were out there to make this a possibility, but the front office missed the target in the offseason/draft.

Approaching this season like it is anything less than a SB champion or bust season for Rhule was their first mistake. Allowing Rhule a 7 year plan and to existing a perpetual rebuilding season for 3 years is a problem.

Baker is every bit as good as Burrow.

Exactly. The mods don't notice that this place has the tone of teenage girls shrieking about boy-band drama mainly because they're part of the group doing it. There are honestly people on here that think David Tepper reads the huddle and will do as they wish if they whine hard enough. It's run off a lot of good posters. Again, I'm not sold on Rhule, I don't mind the criticism, it's just the redundancy.

There were four "Fire Rhule" threads after a preseason loss. To quote Letterkenny's hockey coach, "It's fuging embarrassing!"

This. I have criticisms too and I don't mind criticisms but the redundancy mostly by the same people basically just saying the same things over and over again. THAT is what irritates people and NOT legitimate criticisms. But when it gets to the point that every thread is hijacked by the same people with the same ol' song and dance it really takes away from the enjoyment of the site for a lot of people.

Then, people who try to approach things more rationally get called Rhule lovers for defending him but sometimes it's not defending him it's just trying to bring the conversation back from angry, lunatic land.

I know I have Rhule in my name, that's because I joined right after we hired him and I thought is was clever and better than any other name I could come up with but that doesn't mean I'm 100% convinced he's the right guy. I also don't believe 2 seasons is enough time to make that decision. I don't give up on anything easily which is why I'm still married after 20 years.

There are good things and bad things at this point but I do see our roster improving and our cap space is fixed. I think Baker has a great chance of being our QB for the future because I have seen him play very well in less than ideal situations. I like the coaching changes and I like that Rhule physically looks ok. Last year he looked bad and I was seriously concerned for his health as a human being.

I want to wait until this season happens before blaming him for everything bad that happens in the world. Those types of posts come from angry, lunatic land. People just need to chill out a little. I think that's all people are trying to say when they complain about the hate. It's not criticizing when every post is about how bad, stupid, fat, etc. another person is. That IS hating. There's a difference.

See above.

I agree its too far atm but tbf at this point last year Burrow and Baker were being compared.  Baker had just come off a playoff win in Pittsburg and Burrow an injury ended season. Few predicted Baker to implode and Burrow to do his first 5 GWDs for a SB run.  We'll see if the Bengals fall to earth with a SB hangover and if Burrow is the HOF he looks to be.

Crazy the amount of "fans" that care about what other fans think. Stay in your own fuggin lane.

lol people don't like being told no one cares about their opinions of other fans.

Or maybe we just want you to "stay in your lane" and do a little moderation instead of lashing out and complaining about something you are uniquely positioned to do something about.

    • Initially, I wanted Stroud but I thought the trade up meant that, whoever they chose, it was for a reason.  There was no pressure to do anything for the entire scouting team to do other than investigate every aspect of the top 3 candidates.  Stroud had his question marks, and I think it is possible that he falters this year.  Bryce had a much worse situation here in Carolina because we neglected the OL, traded our #1 WR, did not pick WRs well in the draft, traded our pro bowl RB, and seem to disregard the TE position altogether.  Bozeman was not a good fit and we relied on an improved OL in 2022 to suggest that we were set there when we were far from it.  Fitterer had no vision, no grasp of talent, and everyone in the front office and on the coaching staff were pretending to be gurus.  Our coaching staff was a group of men earning a lifetime achievement paycheck.  It all goes back to the years of neglect for the OL.  My theory?  If Stroud had come to Carolina, he would be as mocked and ridiculed as Bryce Young.   No, he does not have a cannon.  Chad Pennington was a weak-armed QB who had success and would have been even better if it were not for injuries.  Smarts is important at QB, and so are mechanics.  Before you can address Young's mechanics, he needs an OL, Running game, and weapons. We were not really able to run play action from under center for a few reasons--play action is not effective when you have to pass the ball--other than that, the QB must turn his back to the LOS for about 1.5 seconds.  When the QB has less than 2.5 seconds to pass the ball, that eliminates that part of the play book.  Heck, even the run option is minimized when there is immediate facial pressure.  SO those who want to talk about happy feet, bouncing, etc--they are symptoms of the problem, not the problem.  A weak arm?  Well, Young's arm is between Chad Pennington and Joe Montana--closer to Joe.  His are is not as weak as some think--but he has issues with the deep ball. When you are reacting to the defense and quickly have to pass, then that takes away the strength because you don't have the base to get power behind it.  I still wish we had taken Stroud, but we have Young and if you toss him out before giving him support, you are not wise, unsmart, not unfoolish, and rather elite in your failure to attain mediocrity.  Expect growth.  How much? Nobody knows.
    • Honestly, irrespective of Bryce, this is my hope for Canales. I hate hearing about him being a "QB whisperer." Because I don't give a rat's ass about him saving Bryce's career. Bryce either proves to be worth what we gave up for him, or it's next man up. I'm just excited to have a young, innovative offensive mind.
