Baker Could Be our “Brees”

I think we can all agree that he didn't get enough reps and we were cheated out of seeing this kid play behind the second or first team lines because Rhule didn't want him to. Next year. That's what they told him, even pre-camp, that's why he clarified his position, HE came to start.

I think most people here agree that Corral actually getting to compete is not what happened. See being disingenuous has it's downfalls like karma, now Sam's out (who got a lions share of full speed actual 1st/2nd team reps), so is Corral(who can't practice with the team for a whole season 😕 AND the kicker as the kicker.

This HCs plans will continue to fall apart because they're built on the weakest of foundations. To have to watch this all over again with another disposable, blame able and former hope and dream of another town every season. Another one.

Maybe my displeasure comes off as Baker hate but it isn't. I hate that the Panthers can't finally draft a rookie QB to be the final piece of this grand Tepper rebuild.

It's maddening but I'm not mad at Teddy/Sam/Cam/Sam/Baker it's the absolute refusal of a "QB guru" to develop a rookie QB for the Carolina Panthers like we don't deserve the pride and joy or disappointment that comes with that journey.

We hit the jackpot with Cam. We potentially hit the jackpot with Corral but he was pre-redshirted before camp because his name wasn't Kenny Pickett. Petty Rhule is petty, nothing new.

This rookie, everything he did, should have at least got a chance. He was micromanaged off the field as originally planned by Rhule pre-camp.

He was never going to get a chance to “compete” this year regardless. Period. He’s a 3rd round rookie who was completely overwhelmed when he did get a chance. Are you serious right now? Did you really think he was gonna somehow compete against Baker and Sam and actually win the starting QB job? He’s not Russell Wilson. And if you actually thought he had a shot to do that you’re more delusional than I thought.

Yeah man. I don’t think he’s the incompetent retard some of you do. I think he’s got the ability to turn it around and I’m really hoping he does. This year is by far the most talented team he’s had top to bottom. And if he doesn’t produce, he will be gone. But damn some of y’all are just so negative it’s getting absurd.

It's not negative we're logical. The HC is a college coach and never hatched after two years of NFL incubation. Still doing the same things that lost him 23 games in a two year career.

You're actually betting the guy that messed it up can now fix it?

Spoiler alert: A guy installed our HVAC had to come back 4 times to fix it and couldn't. I called a very professional company who answered their phone unlike the other guy.

Needless to say they found the root problem, diagnosed it, ordered the parts, came back and it's fixed w/warranty.

Which guy is Rhule in that situation?

Would Baker have a chance behind the third string line(if you say yes...hmmm)? Not to bang on those guys but it is what it is.

We're talking about legitimate football stats and player comparisons, we've got a rival fan in this thread, and a team that some feel could be a shocker in the league this season.  Feels like old times and I like it, welcome back football!

I'm not sure who's more delusional, @rippadonn with his Corral love fest or @Iron Saint talking about Jameis being a HOFer. 😂

Delusional. Baker/Rhule will "win" in the NFL. That's more delusional than anything.

If we've learned anything NOT being a NFL first rounder is a much tougher road.

Maybe I gravitate to the underdog like the cardiac cats, the 15-1 Panthers.

That's ok. I'm not crazy like YOU guys.

Baker,Baker,Baker.

What does that have to do with anything? Baker was the first overall pick in his draft. With a draft loaded with good QBs. He would never be in that position to begin with. I’m not hating on Matt. I think he’s got loads of potential. But him playing this year was never gonna happen. Sam woulda started all year if we didn’t get Baker. Matt just isn’t ready. And that’s ok.

The point is NOBODY would look good behind the guys that are getting their walking players.

You're judging Corral, talking all this smack when the guy had Joe's that wouldn't be protecting him at Ole Miss, maybe wouldn't have made his highschool squad. He was always "that guy", why? Because he backed it up on the field TWO years in a row of Brees level accuracy. Not because ripp said so.

I think it's very shortsighted and agenda driven to hate on a player who hasn't even been allowed to fight back.

If he had a chance even I would call bust my damn self, immediately, but this kid was destined for bubble wrap and coddling on sight.

    • Why do you say that. What leads you to think that we, as supporters, think his ceiling is 10-12. That's a ridiculous assumption on your part. The Seahawks won the SB with Darnold passing for 25 TD's, 14 Ints with a 99.1 rating for the season.  The Panthers with Young were at 23 TD's, 11 Ints and a 78.8 rating for the season. Not that far off. The problem with all the Young discourse around here is the assumption that the QB is the sole determining factor for a teams success. That just isn't true and it's certainly not how Morgan and Tilis are building the Panthers.
    • Do we pay based on how many wins or how many games Bryce led us to wins? We've spent quite a bit on defense this year and hopefully they're much improved. If the Panthers do get to 10 wins, but Bryce has another year like last year where he showed up big in a couple, was present in a few, and forgettable in most, do we still pay him 50m per year?  I keep bringing it up because I think it's relevant, but Bryce was outplayed by a 6m per year backup last year. I don't see how it's possible to pay a top tier QB contract to someone who's putting up backup QB production.
    • I understand tempering expectations, but there are some issues with his points. Walker was a 3 year starter, but Green Bay let him walk and no other team was quick to snatch him up. That says something. Freeling will compete to start. With Hunter, we rotate our linemen and even 5th round pick Cam Jackson played some meaningful snaps last year. Both Brown III and Wharton have underwhelmed since we picked them up. Hunter is a run plugger that we have needed. Hunter will play early, even if he isn't the "starter." Brazzell was described as one of Canales' favorite prospects in the draft and he has a speed element we have been missing. I think Canales is going to have plays drawn up with Brazzell on the field just out of pure excitement. It will be up to Brazzell to prove he can handle it, though. If he can, he will play. As far as our secondary picks, yeah they have to earn their stripes and Evero tends to lean on veterans. So they might take time, but if they can show they can play, they will see the field. Smith-Wade and Ransom did. Sam Hecht simply has to show he can handle the mental side of the NFL game. If he can, he is in a direct competition with Fortner, who's also relatively young, but also on his 3rd NFL team and doesn't have the power profile of Hecht.  I can appreciate that Gantt wants to pour cold water on what was perceived as an impactful draft, but facts are facts.
