I'm as big a Rhule skeptic as anyone but bear with me. If he fails this season it won't be for lack of effort. I feel this staff attempted to do everything within it's power to make this team a playoff contender. Fits held true to his motto"in on every deal" and I feel like we did have a shot at anyone. For the first time in never I felt like if anyone was released or available my gm would take a look.  That's a great feeling.

Depth is as good as it's been in I want to say almost a decade. QBs.. No proven superstar but feeling better about baker and if he does go down darnold could be called upon in a pinch to try to steady the ship. We rarely have a capable backup. Like...never..

Rbs at cmc or bust for the most part but foreman is solid and chubba hands aside isn't the worse..  Wr.... Have we ever had this many options? Moore is legit..not sure about Robbie..higgy looks capable..shi is emerging..who knows what we have in TMJ could be good could be bad but it's a legit option. Shenault JR puts pressure on Wrs and a possible RB option as well.. It's weapons..

We all know what's going on with the line.. so much depth we were able to trade a guy and get compensated for it! But won't go into details here it's better period. Defensive line has options but could be better.. A lot depends on YGM development. He will be key. We know who burns is Frankie is a high energy high effort guy he's going to do his best every snap and that makes the loss of reddick not as bad. Smith is a future starter..

Secondary is where I'm most comfortable.. Maybe one of the best in the league? I think it's early... But I expect horn to eventually become a top 5 cb in the league.. Henderson looks like he is progressing and the investment is paying off. Jackson can run with anyone and has hart.. Some nice depth behind those guys if called apon. We know what Chinn brings.. He's a turnover guy in every position you put him at makes plays.. Woods is as solid a running mate as chinn has had since he's been here. Having Burris and Heartfield as backups makes me feel comfortable they looked good in flashes.

The NFL staff around him,  plus Fitterer , will make this team better.   

Rhule has been a disaster on game day  no need to revisit why I say that…we all know it…we just have to  hope on game day, he listens to his staff.

I know of not one NFL HC that he is better than.

as for optimism, why not.  

Having a serviceable QB makes all things better in the NFL

There's plenty of reasons to be optimistic or pessimistic; it's just a matter of what you choose to be at this point.

Personally, I prefer to have a good time. Some folks prefer to be miserable. At this point, it's up to you. 🙂

Rhule is the reason I am not optimistic about this team. I think everything else it set up nicely for this to be a good team, but I've seen nothing that would indicate he knows how to win.

If he gets out of the way and let's his coaches run it, they have a chance, but I don't trust Rhule.

Definitely want to make it to the playoffs but like you said, Rhule will find a way to fug that scenario up. I want him gone. Can't have it both ways I guess.

Unfortunately the Panthers constantly disappoining me have made being their fan not much fun anymore. I haven't 100% given up, but these last few year have made it tough and I'm almost at the point I just want to find something else that won't be a constant disappointment. I'm giving them this year....unless they have a deep playoff run or they fire Rhule and replace him with someone who isn't going to have to take 5 years to figure out how to win, I'm probably going to move on.

If you need your head coach to "get out of the way" in order to be successful, why is he your head coach?

He's supposed to be a good leader. A good leader would do that. A good leader gets people on his team (more speaking about the coaching/leadership team) that can do their job well (hopefully better than you can do their job), give them some direction, and let them do their job. Let them figure out the best way to get it done and you get out of the way and trust the people you've put on your leadership to to get to the destination/goal you were pointing towards.

I get all that, but as an NFL head coach you're still the guy in charge of what happens on gameday.

If you can't contribute something to, for lack of a better term, the process, what is your value?

I would say overall roster is probably bottom third of the NFL. But we are a bad team that has been rebuilding for three seasons. That's kind of the lot we have for the moment.

The important thing is that it appears to be improved over the roster we fielded in 2020. Now THAT was a bad team.

      We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that

      There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
