Burns is the new Rhule

One thing you have to bear in mind about that Rams deal is that it was all future picks.  They don't have a first round pick this April.  Thus, the 2024 pick is actually valued as a second and the 2025 pick valued as a third.

When you look at it through that lens the deal looks a little different.

Look at it through this lens...

2023: 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5

2024: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 5, 6

2025: 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7

A Super Bowl winning franchise that’s regularly in the playoffs doesn’t offer 2 first and 1 second for an overrated player. That said, you take that deal and run.

A team that hasn't yet realized it's a shadow of itself does, particularly when it's fighting to stay relevant, and agree 100% that the deal should have been accepted.

Burns can still be traded next year people are just mad because they aren't getting instant gratification since the season is a misery factory.

People are worried that more game tape is going to show how overrated he is.  We should have taken the deal as fast as possible.

No one hates Burns, he's a decent player, but he isn't a two 1st rounder player.  He's not really a complete DE.  He shouldn't even have made the pro-bowl last year over Reddick on the same team.  He isn't worth a big contract and now that we passed on two first rounder picks he's going to have all the leverage.  So we end up having to overpay for Burns and probably won't have a deal like that again.

Fans have to stop being sentimental to all players.  Almost everyone is replaceable and if you can get better you need to make the deals.  Burns isn't Peppers.  He isn't someone you build a defense around from what we have seen.

The 2nd in 2023 changes it to too good to turn down and yet they did. The firsts being future picks is fine in that equation. There is no defending not making that trade for Burns, he isn't worth close to that.

This does not put butts in the seats.  Burns does.

Look, I don't think Burns will ever be great here.  He'll be good.  I can however see why the choice was made to keep him, even if I don't agree completely.

They will never ever get 2 firsts and a second for burns again

If anything the offseason could produce more competition for suitors, especially looking at the potential DE market.  The buyers pool right now is way more limited as teams are set from a cap standpoint.  Not to mention the only buyers at this point in the season are win-now contenders.

Offseason, the pool widens while they're working new contracts, clearing space.

While you're guaranteeing this let me know the winning PowerBall numbers too while you're at it.

I think some of you are just being emotional and reactive instead of looking at all the angles. No Burns value is not going anywhere and no two people are likely to agree on just how good he is or isn't. If we had traded him I would have accepted it same as any other player I'm not one of these McCaffrey fanatics that will quit the whole team because their favorite player left not even Cam Newton could make me care about or want to remotely follow the Patriots. There are still possible moves to be made in 2023 and especially if we somehow manage to get the first overall pick. Some of you are just hung up on the sting of losing. You'll feel a little better when the season officially concludes for us. In the meantime just laugh at the absurdity of it all.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
