Well….I don’t believe it would be easy to match his production and future potential with two low future first round picks. Let’s the debate begin. Props to Burns….he should only continue to get better and is tied for 7th most sacks in the league even with a horrible offense for the majority of the season.

There’s a good chance those future firsts from the Rams are actually high picks. Plus once you factor in Burns contract and where we are in our quest for a QB… there’s just no way to justify not accepting the trade

Again, the only person it didn’t benefit was Scott Fitterer. Big picture wise you take the deal. However, Scott needs to cling onto whatever chance he has at putting together a competitive team next season to keep his job. Picks in 2024 and 2025 don’t help him. 

What’s in the best interest of Scott Fitterer doesn’t line up with what’s in the best interest for the Carolina Panthers

100% agree. And it’s not that I don’t think Burns is a good player or potentially even a great player. He’s not worth what the Rams offered. The Panthers badly need a franchise QB and they’re going to play themselves out of the top 3 picks in the 1st round like they always do. They needed ammo to trade up to get a franchise QB. 

Scott might have considered that but thought Burns wasn’t worth that much, maybe he’s vital to the team camaraderie (which I could care less about since the team is ASS) but either way I wish they had gotten those picks. Burns is a player who would do well on a complete team. He’s a non factor on a garbage team.

I completely disagree but respect your opinion. When you look around the league and the success rate at DE spot when picked middle and lower portions of round 1 you realize how specials someone like Burns is and is just 24 years old. 
 

Also…it’s not like Burns is doing anything to lower his trade value. He could be traded at any point after the season but based on his current trajectory he is not lowering his overall value especially when he has zero threat at the other DE spot and he performs even though teams have to focus on him specifically at DE

Ty ty ty.

As much time and energy as fans spend obsessing over every aspect of football, it amazes me that more don't see the self interest in many FO and coaching decisions.  Fitterer failed to take that deal not because it was a bad deal for the team, but because it was a deal that wasn't in his personal interest in retaining his job.

If you're a head coach or GM, winning a SB is great, making the playoffs is great, but keeping those paychecks coming is even greater.  Until coach and GM contracts are heavily incentivized towards playoff success, the number one priority for any HC or GM being paid millions of dollars a year will be retaining your job over on the field success.

I'm not sure his value will ever be this high. Still on his rookie deal and only 24, he's the same age as some rookies coming out of the draft. The Rams were probably going to immediately throw a huge contract extension at him like the Dolphins did with Chubb. If the Panthers wait another season, he's another year older, contract extension prices for LB/DE's goes up again, and now he's worth less because he will be a higher cap hit sooner, and a year older.

I think the Panthers have made their decision, he's not getting traded at any point. Once he signs his extension with the Panthers, he's untradable and that could be as soon as this offseason.

And aside from the draft assets, I thought trading him made sense because who knows if he fits with what the new coaching staff will want next season. And if you want to entice an established coach like Sean Payton to coach the Panthers (not saying that I do), having those draft picks were a nice thing to offer.

This is exactly why I don't think that he's lost any trade value. With every sack that he gets, he's actually bolstering his value. I still believe he'd be more effective as a 3-4 LB, but you never know. If we add a more traditional rusher on the other side, and let Haynes rush from the LB spot, we just might be special. If we decide to trade him, two firsts and a second is the floor.

Burns doesn't get double teamed. Watch him play, I do. He's a jag who gets a sack or a pressure when it doesn't matter. He never shows up on money downs. Hanes did it twice in one game. 

Burns is overrated and if they pay him he will NEVER earn it.

      I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.

      Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.

      Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
