New Darnold Podcast

Sam gets credit for listening to Gucci Mane. I've never heard bad things about him on a personal level most of his teammates say he's a great guy. That doesn't make a franchise QB though there are plenty of stories like this of guys with similar backgrounds who couldn't put it all together. If it does not happen this year it isn’t going to that's just the reality of his situation. Start this weekend by getting the ball to DJ Moore and not turning the ball over. I imagine Carroll and his staff will be watching plenty of the Sam Darnold career "lowlights" to challenge him.

He's a bad QB but I have zero issues with Sam Darnold the person and wish him nothing but the best.

Imagine having to go to work every day and the success of your career being led by Adam Gase and Matt Rhule as the 2 coaches in charge of your development to this point. It hurts to even type that.

I dunno man - I've put up with some abjectly awful bosses for a lot less money than Sam is making.  He gonna be alright.

It'd be cool to see Sam go through a Geno Smith like Career Renaissance in a few years after he's had time to be a backup for a bit.

It's not all about money. These guys are competitors too. You get paid by developing. If Sam could have been developed into a mid range starting NFL QB, that's 250m over the course of a career. That's a whole lot of cheddar.

That is a two way street man. Sam is just a bad QB and has been since school. Nothing has changed there. I couldn't imagine being tied to a QB like Sam after climbing to the top of my profession. In these cases they were all terrible so it's just a puddle of sad outside of bank accounts.

Maybe he could revitalize his career but he needs sometime in a non-dysfunctional place to be a backup for a little bit with a good offensive staff in place. I just personally don't see it with his issues. Other than his splash plays, there isn't a lot of positives in his game.

Sammy Franchise could go undefeated and the Panthers could make a deep playoff run on his back.

    • I agree. I’d make the move because I don’t see us sniffing the playoffs and let’s be honest TMac, Legette and Coker better be our top 3 future. If they aren’t and we need Thielen to replace one of them, then we need to draft yet another 1st round WR, SMH. Suffice it to say, Thielen isn’t good enough to get us into the playoffs so let’s get the young guys starting so we know if they aren’t good enough. We still have so many assumptions about whether players are who we need them to be that holding onto Thielen for 3-7 wins isn’t worth passing on a mid round pick (3rd to 5th/swaps). We’ve had some success with later round picks/UDFAs and need depth.
    • If you move Thielen I think you almost have to keep Renfrow. You need some sort of veteran presence in the locker room and Renfrow would be good insurance in the slot. I'm sure we have Coker penciled in to start there but you also have to be keeping Coker in the back of your head as XL insurance on the outside if he doesn't step up. If he flounders again, I wouldn't wait too awfully long to replace him with Coker outside and slide Renfrow into the slot and keep it moving.
    • Playing the same role is different than having the same style.  Cam Newton and Drew Brees both played QB but arent the same type in any way.
