Depends on if Chris Tabor is retained. I think Zane was a beast when it came to longer field goals.

Even if Tabor isn’t retained (and I really hope he is as our ST has been outstanding),  I don’t see why or how we cut Piniero. He’s been money since the Atlanta game. And Gonzalez, though a good K, has been on IR the past two seasons due to non-contact injuries, which makes availability a major question mark at this point.

Let's see who can't read

Is Gonzalez gonzo? or should Piñeiro retiro?

Guilty…I selected Piniero when I really meant to choose Gonzalez to be cut. I like them both but can’t see how we choose the latter after he ending the last two seasons on IR.

That is a good point and very true. Pinero has given us he gift of being available which makes his value skyrocket not to mention he has been very reliable as well which makes him even more valuable to the team.

Pineiro is a pending FA so he'd have to be re-signed before this became a question. I'd prefer him though. Gonzalez is just too injury prone to rely on IMO.

This EXACTLY after thinking about what you are saying as it totally makes sense. I agree with about half of what you say and when I do its like you just clarified things for me and helped me realize the direction we need to go,

Eddie was one of the most reliable kickers in the league this year.  #2 in FGM% with at least 20 attempts, #1 in FGM% with at least 30 attempts.

Zane was a 78% kicker (71/91) before his 2021 Panthers campaign.  2021 was his best campaign by a mile at 91% (20/22).  His career best season still fell short of the mark Eddie put forward this year, 94% (33/35).

Combine that with back to back injury seasons and it's seems pretty straight forward that Eddie is our kicker.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
