I disagree about Lance looking "abysmal." I think that's way over the top. Lance was way more raw, younger, and simply less experienced than most QBs when he entered the NFL. And yet, one of the brightest minds in the game gave up a king's ransom to acquire him. That's because he sees a lot of potential---maybe unmatched potential in the kid. And, just like Corral, Lance really hasn't had hardly any opportunity to show what he has. What, a couple of regular season games? Are y'all kidding me? Seriously?

All that being said, the 49ers will never get the compensation back that they spent to acquire him (nor should they) if they put him on the trade block. If they decide to trade him, it will be more about Brock Purdy's surprising---some might even say sensational--ascension than Lance being or "trending towards being" a bust. Shanahan has supported Lance consistently and completely, and has honestly refuted any unsubstantiated rumors about Lance being unfit for the job. As far as that goes, I think that he still believes in him, but he likely believes in Purdy now also.

So, if they decide to trade Lance, it will not be about Lance being a bust, but for any suitors it will be about the compensation. Just like any young QB with upside, if you can get Lance for a relative song and dance---basically at a value, then you should probably do that. The Devil is in the details.

Dave is most certainly the worst.

That's some world class rationalization there.

If they move on from a guy they gave up that much to get in just his third year when they've barely seen him play, yeah they think he's a bust.

The 49ers won't move on from Lance this coming year.  They have seen enough our of Purdy they finally cut the apron strings on Jimmy G and roll with those two.  However, if Lance can't stay healthy next season or doesn't produce, then he could potentially be considered a bust.  Sitting behind an successful incumbent QB in year 1 as a "growth year" and and getting hurt early on in year 2 doesn't necessarily mean he's a bust.  Year three will be super important to the rest of his career though.

I don't think they'll move on this year but that's the hypothetical scenario this thread is based on.

I do think they'll ultimately move on without much of anything much to show for him. It just might not be this year.

I think that's a simply a simplistic perspective, and I seriously doubt that Shanahan and the 49ers are looking at it that way. They have a good problem based upon circumstance.

If you're telling me that you would get rid of what you really wanted even though it dropped into your lap, just because you paid more for something that you believed that you could develop into what you want, I'm going to think that you have some screws loose.

If it turned out that "what I really wanted" wasn't very good, yeah I'd move on from it.

It'd be foolish not to.

at any cost?

I wouldn't give up anything as high as a 2nd for him, but if he could be had for say a 3rd and maybe a future 3rd or 4th, is that not worth kicking the tires on and at worst we have a backup QB who can run an option based offense if whoever the starter is gets injured?

Stop trading picks for projects or busts. Just draft until you hit.

Yeah, but that's not really what's going on in the case of the 49ers.

None of us here knows what's "really going on" inside the 49ers.

What we know from the outside is that they're winning (big) with Brock Purdy and Lance is an afterthought right now.

Sure, we don't know if in fact that Lance will even be put on the block, but we do know what Shanahan has said about Lance, and we do know that he has consistently stated that he still believes in him.

The Pope is always perfectly healthy until he's dead.

Likewise, coaches always 100% believe in a guy right up till they cut or trade him.

I don’t think it’s that simple. It would be more like they have found their guy in an unlikely place and can use Lance to get more assets to build a team around their (potentially proven) young QB.
An extreme example would be the Pats trading Bledsoe for a 1st when Brady came out of no where to prove he is the guy. They didn’t think Bledsoe was bad or washed up, just knew they had their future QB by dumb luck and could get a return for their other QB.
With that said I would keep Lance for at least one more year if I were them to make sure Purdy keeps up his play and you can put him in blowouts/preseason to let the league see how he has developed to drive up his value. Keep feelers out there and you also have a young backup with huge potential in the mean time.

    • Despite their differences, QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online +1-844-476-5438 also have plenty of overlap. Here’s a look at how these two QuickBooks accounting software options stack up. Essential core functions There are two versions of QuickBooks Desktop (Premier Plus and Enterprise) and four versions of QuickBooks Online (Simple Start, Essentials, Plus and Advanced).  All versions of QuickBooks +1-844-476-5438 offer similar essential functions, including the following: Import and organize transactions from bank and credit card accounts (PayPal and Square integration on Online only) Invoice creation Estimate and quote creation Accept payment from an embedded invoice link (through QuickBooks Business Network on Online only) See the status of invoices in real time Categorize business expenses for tax purposes Create reports (more reports on Desktop Enterprise and most Online versions) Capture receipts via OCR with expense category matching Charge and track sales tax (sync with Amazon, eBay and Shopify on Online only via third party apps or via add-on for Desktop Enterprise) 1099 contractor management  Inventory management (more inventory features for Desktop Enterprise and Excel imports/marketplace syncs via third-party add for Online editions) Time tracking (sync with QuickBooks Time Elite via add-on for desktop versions) Both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online +1-844-476-5438 are especially well regarded for the following capabilities: Tax compliance Cash flow and expense tracking Business budgeting Ability to accept online payments General reporting features Multiple tiers Both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks +1-844-476-5438 Online offer multiple service tiers that cater to different business needs, such as the number of employees who need to access the software. We’ll go into more detail on this later. QuickBooks Desktop vs. Online: The differences Here are some of the key differences between QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. Features The main areas of difference between QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online lie in the accounting software features offered. The online version has several useful components that QuickBooks Desktop doesn’t. Here are some of the features exclusive to QuickBooks Online: Attach documents, images, signatures and more to individual transactions from both mobile and desktop devices Audit logging for tracking actions and changes over time Automatic nightly synchronization of bank transactions Auto-add banking rules Customize banking rules based on dollar value, percentage, class and location Journal entries with multiple accounts receivable and accounts payable (AR/AP) lines Turn management reports into presentations Scheduling and sending of future transactions with delayed credits and charges Support for multiple budgets during a fiscal year Transaction scheduling and dispatch automation Unlimited time tracking and reports-only users Conversely, many classic QuickBooks Desktop tools can’t be found in the online version. These Desktop-only tools fit neatly into five categories. Accounting: Ability to back up, restore and condense data and company files Correct unapplied credits and payments QuickBooks Statement Writer (add-on package for GAAP compliance) Client data reviewing Ability to post to extra AR/AP accounts Undeposited fund management Correction of sales taxes Create accounts for a specific time period Reporting: Industry-specific reporting options Header and footer customization on reports Support for multiple vendor ship-to addresses Business planners, balance sheets and forecasting by class Data entry: Batch invoices, transactions and timesheets Rate-level billing Automated Clearing House payments to vendors Inventory: Ability to build manufacturing features and assemblies Inventory reordering Partial receipt against purchase orders Value inventory using the average cost Management of sales orders and invoice tracking, unit measures and availability to promise Job costing: Ability to charge orders and change/markup estimate columns Payroll and labor cost calculation Reports for job costing estimates and actual amounts If you’re a QuickBooks Online user who wants these Desktop features, many third-party apps offer them for an extra charge.  Hosting QuickBooks Desktop is hosted locally, while QuickBooks Online is hosted in the cloud.  This means that QuickBooks Desktop users are limited to one hosting provider — the computer on which the software is installed — or a handful of licensed computers. QuickBooks Online can be accessed from any internet-connected device, including a mobile device with the QuickBooks app installed, after you enter a valid username and password. Because QuickBooks Online is cloud-based, it is a great option for those who need QuickBooks access while not in the office. QuickBooks Desktop is often limited to the number of installations included in your chosen service tier, so you may not be able to access the service if you can’t access the specific device with the software installed. One-time vs. monthly purchases Before the launch of QuickBooks Desktop 2022, the QuickBook products were available as a one-time purchase. Now, Premier Plus and Enterprise packages are available on a subscription-basis only. QuickBooks Online, on the other hand, is a monthly subscription. How much you’ll pay for each service depends on the service tier you buy. QuickBooks Desktop vs. Online: Service tiers and pricing You can choose from two QuickBooks Desktop tiers and five QuickBooks Online tiers.  QuickBooks Desktop service tiers and pricing QuickBooks Desktop will be discontinued on May 31, 2023. After that date, you won’t be able to access QuickBooks add-on services like Online Banking, Online Backup, Live Support and QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Services from any version of the desktop software.
