I wouldn’t be mad if Fitterer was fired

Cool.  Then the argument is Fitt has never been anything but a yes man.   And if that is all he has been.....there is no reason to have that weak of a GM carry over into another era.

Idt that’s what anyone has said…It was pretty clear that during the Rhule era Fitterer was in charge of scouting, drafting the players, contracts. Rhule had final say but wasn’t as involved in the trades to net picks or the lead up to the draft or FA.

But you can connect the dots on the Henderson trade. Fitt wasn’t with the team when CJ was drafted. Rhule was. Rhule said multiple times that he was high on their (Rhule/Hurney) board. So…Rhule drove the train on what player he wanted in that instance.

Over paying fan favorites…bc the contracts knee capped us far into the future and the mistakes continued to compound.

Fitterer trades a pick for a player and then turns around and makes a deal to reacquire the pick while still clearing cap space for the future and allowing the team to build. You thought the one move he made for Gilmore was bad? Hurney literally did crap like that every year…trying to resign and acquire vets to “keep the window open.” When in reality the window had been closed already.

Fitterer has been GM of this team for 2-3 years and this is the first time I can remember you can drop any kind of good QB onto this roster with a coach and we’re going to start winning. It doesn’t have to be a mobile QB. It could be a mobile or a pocket QB and with our defense and our OL/skill players were going to win games.

Were a play caller and QB away…problem is the last play caller (Rhule) sucked and so has every QB since Cam. The rest of the roster is elite tho.

yeah, I'm not one of those fans that has done cartwheels as Fitt has traded away our assets (a rebuilding team) and then traded down to acquire more picks because of the mistakes and how bad it looked.  That's not a positive IMO.  Overall, I'd rather just play the draft lottery with the highest and best picks I got.   Not saying I'm opposed to trading down in the right moment.  Fitt got caught that first year trading down like crazy because our front office was looking clownish after trading away our picks.

Just a complete dysfunctional front office IMO that last couple years.   Which is why I don't see the mental gymnastics to keep Fitt around.  Best case scearnio he was a yes man to a shitshow.  We should just rip the entire band-aid off and start over.

Then Fitt shouldn't have a job present day IMO.   That's my point.

I don't get why we are fixated on holding on to a GM that was mixed up in such a poorly run front office from the old era.

Icky, Horn, Corbett, Bozeman, Marshall, Foreman, Christensen, Luuvu. That’s basically in two offseasons he’s given the panthers probably the best OL/future OL in team history, a stud LB on a good contract, a pro bowl caliber corner and a RB that everyone wants to re-sign….bc he’s playing behind that OL. He fixed basically every problem position we had except TE and QB (hopefully fixed this year).

If you were to look at the entirety of Fields passing numbers and not just how many yards he threw for you'd see hes right on par with Cam when it comes to throwing the football.

He only threw the ball 318 times. The avg QB that starts 17 games probably averages close to 500+ attempts. He had 60% completion and avg'd 7.0 YPP. Solid numbers. He plays in a pretty crappy offense like Cam did in NE, Cam threw the ball only 368 times that year with 65% completion and 7.2 YPP and everyone gave him crap for how bad of a year he had statistically yet when you break it down and consider the offense the player is playing in the numbers aren't nearly as bad as the casual couch potato makes them out to be.

Like Cam, Fields will be an awesome QB with a chance to be great if Chicago ever gets their head out of their ass and learns how to build an offense around their young QB.

Yards per point was the stat PathersFan4Life used to use as a metric for why TeeBow was better than Cam. Is that you PFFL? lol

I mean, if we just talk about the highlights of Marty Hurney.  He is a great GM.

you are overselling some unknowns really.   Take Marshall.  600 yards and 1 TD in 2 years.  Who knows what he ends up actually being in reality.   I mean, I have always been a TMJ guy but you can't call that a hit yet.

Horn to date makes Jeff Otah look great.   It is what it is.   Otah is the boards favorite bust whipping boy and reality is he was off to a better start than Horn has been.

Foreman is a 27 year old journeyman RB.  He isn't the answer to anything.

Our QB position isn't fixed. Our WR position isn't fixed.  Our RB position isn't fixed.  Our TE position isn't' fixed.  We have LB, DE, DB holes.   You selling this as a QB away roster?

also, you have to acknowledge how weak the schedule was when Wilks made us "respectable".   Good teams would blow our doors off.

There are no elite players on the Panthers roster at this time. There is a couple of good to great players and several with potential. Then there's a lot of filler. Peppers, Kuechly, and Smith are examples of former elite players that were Panthers. There isn't anyone close to that level on the current roster. Horn and Icky have a ton of potential and may end up elite one day, but they have a ton of growing to do to get there.

Can anyone tell me what Fitterer has done to deserve staying though the next head coach? What’s his best move? Drafting Icky? Signing some offensive linemen who panned out?

As far as I can see he wasted a ton of resources on Sam Darnold who sucked ass most of the time he played for the Panthers, whiffed on re-signing some key players like Hasaan Reddick, drafted injury prone Jaycee Horn instead of Slater or Justin Fields…

Wait why is he still the GM again?

I’m actually more upset we passed on Parsons

Yeah and its amazing when you spend draft capital, especially a top 10 pick, on a lineman its shocking that you know the line actually gets better

Except the needs at safety, corner, starting DE, other LB spots, and WR.

Not everybody wants to re-sign him. If his production is due to the line, then get a younger and cheaper player to replace him. Use that extension money to bolster and re-sign Oline players instead.

He’s just inconsistent with his vision.

We trade CMC which signals to the league that were in rebuild mode so we get some amazing offers for Burns and Moore but don’t pull the trigger.  I was fine with him passing on the Moore deal but the Burns trade was too good to be true. We now have to pay Burns top five money to be a fringe top ten defensive end.

We start last year 3-0 beating two of the worst teams in the league and a Saints team ravaged by Covid and all of a sudden we are in win now mode trading for a Gilmore and Henderson.

I worry about his vision for this team and to see it through.

I mean, there is some fools gold going on there to a certain degree.  Not trying to take away from what they did.  NFL is tough.  But most of our respect came against horrific NFCS teams or some of the worst teams in the NFL against the run (Seattle/Lions who were the 30th and 29th worst run defenses).

Wilks saw 4 opponents that had a top 10 run defense.   And 3 of those 4 completely shutdown our run game and Foreman to the point of nonexistence.

21 total rushing yards vs Steelers.

36 total rushing yards vs Ravens

64 total rushing yards vs Bengals

We did have success from the 10th ranked Broncos

So overall, Foreman and Carolina couldn't run the ball against teams that actually defend the run.  Our production was well below the averages those good run defenses were giving up too.
