This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.

Bottom line is Wilks performed better with less then Reich last year. Just a fact.

You don't just look at last year. You look at the full resume.

This isn’t a bashing Wilks. He did a tremendous job, and deserves a HC.

But if you put the two resumes side by side and took off the names, you're picking the Reich resume every time.

Not saying that at all.

I'm saying if another team thought he was one of the best options, they would have interviewed regardless of if they thought he might get the Carolina job.

I'm confused as to what the point of this argument is.

Who other teams interview is who we should interview?

Are good coaches only good coaches if they do multiple interviews?

You really think that an impending lawsuit has nothing to do with it?

Yes you could argue that hiring a guy that got fired halfway through the season, while having horrible offensive output last year was not the best decision versus a guy in house who had the team performing way over expectation with community support.

The Panthers did not expect to trade CMC and get better.  That was a tank attempt.  Make no mistake a 6-6 record, if you can even really count the first game against Wilks with him taking over mid week, is  miracle work.

You listed the the things that were against Wilks, but what about the head winds going against Reich in Indy? He had an owner that failed to give him what he needed and was forced to change QB’s at the whim of a crazy owner.

I think Tepper made him interim HC to prove to the league that he'd be a viable option for other coaching jobs. It gave him the opportunity to audition and show other owners who may be looking for a defensive minded head coach, or leader of men.

At the end of the day, Wilks did not get us to playoffs playing in the worst division in the league. Had we been in any other other division, this wouldn't have been a topic of conversation. Yes he went 6-6 but only 3 of those games were against winning teams and those teams weren't anything special.

Even as a minority, I want the best man for the job, I don't care if he black, white, blue or purple. Not attacking his character, but his inability to adjust to Mike Evans and playing conservative cost him this opportunity. Hopefully he learns from it and gets another opportunity to prove it.

Allowing a man to audition for another teams HC spot is a terrible idea too. That is a direct conflict of interest when it comes to the draft. I’ve said it before, Wilkes destroyed our tank for his own gain

Well if this is the philosophy we want to use with Reich why don't we apply to Wilks as well.  He's a bad coach because he had a bad year at AZ when everyone knows he got screwed there.  Yet it couldn't be an outlier like last year is being painted for Reich?

While Wilks was the interim we would have all the conversation in concordance about how he got screwed in AZ, and now that Reich is selected people are using this same info to poo on Wilks.  It's not right.  Its a double standard and it's old.

You could make an argument that he didn't get offers because teams assumed he was going to be the Panthers coach, he isn't the only qualified coach that doesn't get "interviews" or legit consideration.

It's okay to admit the NFL has had some racial discrepancies when it comes to coaches, ownership, and qbs.

It's also okay to like the hiring of Frank Reich.

It's also okay to realize that the team greatly mismanaged the situation and didn't do itself any favors by not perpetuating that notion.

Lol

You said "could make an argument that he didn't get offers because teams assumed he was going to be the Panthers coach"

And I'm saying that's not how NFL teams think or work.

I agree with that about Reich. I like Frank Reich.  I even watched his Northview sermon last night.  This isn't about Reich.  Wilks deserved a legitimate look and he didn't get one, but the Panthers pretended they did, that's all the problem is.

I've met you before in real life and I know that neither you or I both work for an NFL team, so let's not get into who knows what here.

Put the two resumes side by side and take off the names. You're really trying to say you'd take Wilks?

    • I went to Canes games back in '04 & '05 when you were probably still a swimmer waiting to make your dad a father. There was no one there bc they sucked. Some of the lowest attendance in the NHL. As a Panthers fan coming off a SB season (03-04), I couldn't even believe they put a hockey team in Raleigh, and given the attendance, a lot of people speculated they would be relocated somewhere back up north where they would be supported and not "Mayberry." Seriously, educate youself.  That is reality. That being said, comparing that environment to 2024 Canes would be disingenuous. I was at PNC last year and know how great the current environment is. Comparing the current environment at BOA to 10 years ago is just as disingenuous.  Just bc you didn't witness how good BOA is when the Panthers are actually decent doesn't change reality. Seriously, surely you see that coming from such an elitist environment like the globally renowned world-class city of Raleigh, NC... I guarantee you if you went to a Canes game and a Panthers game in 2005, the difference would be unreal bc the Panthers were awesome and the Canes were (at the time) a moribund franchise. I have been in BOA when the whole stadium was rocking. You simply are young, don't know what you're talking about, but want to portray yourself as having knowledge about things you simply don't. You have a lot in common with modern day politicians and televangelists Like I said, Idiocracy has prevailed... Have a great day too!
    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
