To clarify, since the Saints let him out of his contract, Richard could sign to any position he's willing to do.

That said, Joe makes it sound like the DC search Is starting from scratch again.

Joe is being Joe.  This DC hire is crucial to get right. I want them all to be in agreement on who it will be.

Interviewing coordinators before you have a HC is just dumb.

I mean it’s a ‘GM’ Rhule hired. What do people expect.

I am remaining optimistic about this franchises ass backward ways and will cheer on Reich, but damn I would’ve loved a new GM.

While I think Richard would make a great DC, I’m starting to think the Richard and Manuel interviews were to satisfy the Rooney Rule so they could pounce on Fangio. Now that he’s likely headed elsewhere, I think they’ll bring in other candidates and do a more thorough search.

Genuine possibility

Why would Fitterer need a power play? He's got the job description of a typical GM now.

UNC's explanation makes way more sense.

possible.

but even among "typical" GMs there is some variance of how much control they have over a HC's staff.  Maybe if we would have went with a young, inexperienced head coach, the GM would have been the deciding voice on the DC hire.  Whereas with Reich he might have more of the final say.

There's no evidence Fitterer wants to control Reich's staff.

They're both actually known to be very easy going guys who work well with others.

I don’t understand why Kris Richard doesn’t have a job. His resume is as strong as you can get from a statistical standpoint.

I don’t know anything about him other than his defenses have been stellar everywhere he goes but yet he continues to bounce around.

Saints defense wasn't as good as they'd hoped last season.

Valid point. Was wondering the same thing. He was a DC for 2 years in Seattle but mostly a defensive assistant or DB coach since until his gig with Saints.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
