Too many are wanting him because they see Cam 2.0. He isn't even close

I was getting annoyed at all the Cam isn’t a good comp for AR as if AR was beyond him. Newton’s college passing stats got him a NC and the heisman. He was so much better in college as a QB and I don’t recall a single Auburn skilled position player doing anything in the NFL.

AR isn’t close to Cam now. Maybe it’s possible that he’ll get there but Cam was a way better prospect.

Maybe it’s possible there is no good comp for Richardson. He’s not as polished throwing the ball yet but he’s much more athletically gifted than Cam.

So clearly, not comps. It’s disrespectful to both guys. It’s because they are taller, black, heavier QBs who are mobile. Cam would break a run and get run down. That’s not going to happen with Richardson.

Two very different players and sometimes we need to acknowledge there are no good comps for player X or Z. And Richardson is one of those guys.

couldnt you say that about any of the top guys?

No.  Stroud won't get you fired.  He's the Trevor Lawrence of this draft.

AR's got more caution tape than any QB in this draft.  He's not a first round pick.  Think about it.  Who are his college comps?

Trey Lance?  Lance had a 66% completion rate in college and played two years.  Remember, his second year was cut off by COVID.

Justin Fields?  Likewise Fields, two years of football and a 68% completion rate.

Jordan Love?  Three years of college ball and a 61% completion rate.

Cam Newton?  FFS, don't even get me started.  AR isn't in the same universe as Cam Newton.

The list goes on.  All these guys were first round QB's and AR doesn't measure up.  People want to lose their minds over a physical specimen.  Don't be fooled.  Good GM's aren't.

There’s no good comp for him. We haven’t had a QB like him.

Actually, I think Cam is a good comp for AR athletically. AR ran the 40 faster but in 2011, were QBs getting a huge amount of coaching up on their 40 times.

I just was a bit annoyed when they tried to make it seem like AR was in another world athletically and almost act like AR was some unbelievable prospect compared to Cam.

Passing wise, Cam isn’t in the same zip code and outside of the 40 time and a few inches, Cam was just as athletic and also did the 3 cone type drills which AR did not. I do think QBs are better trained for numbers now than they were in 2011.

Agree CJ Stroud is the least likely to be a bust and therefore the only one I would trade up for.

The Winning part is the biggest part. That is why a Stetson Bennett pick wouldnt be a bad thing.

    • This is about getting open and YAC....and the QB we have.  You basically are just highlighting average depth when targeted vs 2 players. .  And yeah, I often say AT is a small slow reliable TE in terms of what he does for us.   That's what he is.   I think a couple of you want to make this into a Renfrow argument.   I'm a Renfrow fan.  Renfrow does not check the box of what a BY O needs either at the slot.  Renfrow just a niche roleplayer at this level.  it's easy to look up how horrific AT is with the ball in his hands and in terms of getting open.....and it's also easy to look up what a low ceiling of an offense the steady AT diet produces w/ BY.
    • The one time he's actively tried to lose was the best we've ever done.
    • I simply acknowledge BY is the QB.  And just like we did when we drafted him.....the type O you would need to setup around him for success was always pretty simple.  But we have done virtually the opposite.  XL dropping some passes isn't why we were ranked the 32nd O and 30th passing the past 2 years.  *Ricky Prohel was brought up only in regards to role function he served on the team.  Niche/specialist.   He wasn't eating up the snaps in the O.    AT should have a similar snap %. People could MAUL Ricky Prohel and put hands all over him.   We got to the Super Bowl in part because we were mauling guys (our slot CB).   You can't do that now.  AT has a MUCH easier life and still can't get open.  Or run.    If you live in 3 WR sets, with a weak armed QB, and you choose to put someone who can't get open or run in the slot.......well, your are going to have a weak pass O.  That's by design IMO.
