Brinson basically calls "collusion," but essentially says it's nearly impossible to prove

I think that that's a somewhat simplistic perspective, especially in light of the fact that the qb-needy teams in question all came out at relatively the same time with essentially the same tweet: "Not interested!"  And they didn't even officially kick the tires on him to see what his actual needs are?  Are you kidding me? We don't even really know what Lamar is demanding because no one has offered him anything but the Ravens pre-tag. But it's all a coincidence...

According to Adam Schefter, they can't contact Lamar right now because it would be considered tampering.

All of this is a non-issue. Teams saying "we aren't interested" is to protect them from any claims of tampering by the Ravens, ala the Dolphins in 2022.

In other words, teams coming out and saying "we are not pursuing Lamar Jackson" (right now) is cover for not losing draft picks and being fined by the NFL. Had the NFL not taken draft picks from the Dolphins, this wouldn't have happened.

So guess what? It's much ado about nothing. It's a cover until the tampering window is done. Why it's considered tampering, I don't know. I'm just repeating what Schefter said and ultimately answering the question of "is it collusion?" No, it isn't.

But, my point stands. Not only do you have to offer Lamar a fully guaranteed contract, you then have to trade your 2023 and 2024 1st round draft pick away. This for a guy who is a bottom 12 passer by DVOA and has missed several games in each of the past three seasons.

So, no, it's not collusion. It's not racism. You don't give a guy like Lamar guaranteed money to likely end up injured. Injury could strike anyone but with Watson, Lawrence, Brady, Wilson, etc. you have guys who throw first and are less likely to suffer an injury as a result.

We've all witnessed this, as Panthers fans. Would you all have given Cam a $200,000,000 fully guaranteed contract in 2017? No. No. And no. Why? His playing style led to him being injured and it's a dumb thing to commit that much cap space, and draft picks, to a guy who may not be there.

GM's and owners don't have to collude to reach this conclusion man.

He hasn't lost, per say, he just won't win as big as he was hoping.

He's going to get PAID.  Life changing money, generational money.  He's learning a VERY valuable lesson right now.

Yea not lost but it was mostly the ravens playing it smart because they are almost in a win/win spot right now with the non exclusive franchise tag.

How would they know what he wants without even talking to him?

He wants more than 133 mil guaranteed.  Everyone knows that much. Apparently no other team wants to negotiate with him and his mom to pay him more that that.

We know what the Ravens offered, no?

If he won't accept that, then we know it must be higher than that?

What if that is too rich for our taste in Lamar?

I haven't heard about any earth-shattering numbers thus far. But, it could be too rich for our blood. I still find it odd that we didn't officially get confirmation.

An agent probably would help greatly.

I think the apprehension has more to do with the injuries more than anything else.

And it’s especially unfair to lump the Panthers in that category. We have a fan base and owner that is still reeling from a goat whose career was stolen by injuries and POS ass clown refs in SB 50.

Or maybe teams know what he wants in a contract and don’t want to pay it and give up 2 first round picks

Both very reasonable conclusions. That’s a lot of guarantees and two firsts.

Also, injuries are a huge concern. We know what Cam went through with all of the surgeries and he never missed the end of the season two years in a row and he also never missed a playoff game.

How many QBs have missed the end of two consecutive seasons missing the playoff game one year and having their injury cause then to miss the playoff the other year?

The Ravens have won 1 playoff game in 5 years. Jackson is 1-3 and his injuries cost them one playoff game and one playoff appearance. He has 4 total TDs and 7 turnovers in 4 playoff games.

We can call is collusion, but there are very valid reasons for the Ravens being cautious. Clearly the Carr and Jones contracts show that people are still spending money on QBs but those deals are basically two year deals. Jackson is looking for 3-4x the guaranteed money and while he has been a better QB, that guarantee the whole deal cost is another level.

Of course he needs a agent. An agent would already know his market value and where the interest in him may come from. Lamar needs to realize his situation and what he will be missing out on.  He would have already have massive contract if he would have had an agent from the start. It's just not smart for a qb to think he can negotiate his own contracts. I would pass on him just for that fact alone.

He’s already cost himself a lot of money by not having an agent and might not even be in this situation. The did a talk on him during the combine and the announcer made great points that an agent would have never let him play year 4 for only $1.7M and would never have let him play the 5th year without a new deal. Baltimore paid a former MVP $25M for his last two years. Lamar is already behind money wise and now he’s negotiating after finishing two years up with injuries losing 1 playoff game without him and missing the playoffs due to a backup starting multiple games to end the year.

Are teams "dropping tweets" or are reporters asking people direct questions, and then reporting what they are told?

Could it be that teams may not be telling the "whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help them God" during lying season?

Again owners aren't stupid enough to collude, all they have to do is, not a damn thing.

Why can't a team just offer him a contract that they feel he is worth?

I don't know if you know this but "we don't have to offer him the Watson contract."

Offer him the Kyler Murray deal if the Ravens don't match we just got a franchise QB for a steal.

Daniel Jones is making 40+ mil a year. QB's are going to be high priced regardless of how good or not good they are. I will say it again we don't have to offer Lamar the Watson contract.

Maybe the team just doesn't want him?

Because league rules wouldn't allow it.

    • He didn't bullet anything into anywhere. Most of those passes he either dropped into the bucket or they were underthrown.
    • Oline was worst in the nfl I agree last season, but with 2 solid guards and a very good rt, we aren't going to be a bottom 10 oline.  As for defense, I'm not worried, we actually improved against the run and because burns was dog poo last year, were about the same in pass rush.
