Brinson basically calls "collusion," but essentially says it's nearly impossible to prove

I don't get it--these teams compete against one another, and if a player were there that could help them compete, you go get him.  Are you telling me that Bill Belichick in NE would not pounce on this if he saw the opportunity and value?  I think you hear his demands and you notice that his own team put him out there, knowing that it would drive his price down, or knowing they can live without him.  I would be very hesitant.

An agent probably would help greatly.

Has he? I haven't heard him say much of anything.

He hasn't said, and he probably wouldn't.  But there is this.

Lamar Jackson Contract: Baltimore Ravens 'Best Offer' Already In? - Sports Illustrated Baltimore Ravens News, Analysis and More

Quote

The Ravens have reportedly offered significantly less in monetary guarantees than that which Jackson desires, The reports further suggest that Jackson is looking for a contract in the region of $230 million, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

Whether the reports are accurate or not is anyone's guess.

Maybe the team just doesn't want him?

And that's my point.

Why don't they want a QB who wins 75% of his games and has a MVP on his resume?

They telling us they are not trying to win. This new staff said there would be change. If we don't want Lamar fine. We better get a QB in the draft.

I don't know if you know this but "we don't have to offer him the Watson contract."

Offer him the Kyler Murray deal if the Ravens don't match we just got a franchise QB for a steal.

Daniel Jones is making 40+ mil a year. QB's are going to be high priced regardless of how good or not good they are. I will say it again we don't have to offer Lamar the Watson contract.

Because it's very possible and likely they don't feel he's worth what you think he's worth.

According to Adam Schefter, they can't contact Lamar right now because it would be considered tampering.

All of this is a non-issue. Teams saying "we aren't interested" is to protect them from any claims of tampering by the Ravens, ala the Dolphins in 2022.

In other words, teams coming out and saying "we are not pursuing Lamar Jackson" (right now) is cover for not losing draft picks and being fined by the NFL. Had the NFL not taken draft picks from the Dolphins, this wouldn't have happened.

So guess what? It's much ado about nothing. It's a cover until the tampering window is done. Why it's considered tampering, I don't know. I'm just repeating what Schefter said and ultimately answering the question of "is it collusion?" No, it isn't.

But, my point stands. Not only do you have to offer Lamar a fully guaranteed contract, you then have to trade your 2023 and 2024 1st round draft pick away. This for a guy who is a bottom 12 passer by DVOA and has missed several games in each of the past three seasons.

So, no, it's not collusion. It's not racism. You don't give a guy like Lamar guaranteed money to likely end up injured. Injury could strike anyone but with Watson, Lawrence, Brady, Wilson, etc. you have guys who throw first and are less likely to suffer an injury as a result.

We've all witnessed this, as Panthers fans. Would you all have given Cam a $200,000,000 fully guaranteed contract in 2017? No. No. And no. Why? His playing style led to him being injured and it's a dumb thing to commit that much cap space, and draft picks, to a guy who may not be there.

GM's and owners don't have to collude to reach this conclusion man.

DVOA? What about the official stat that the NFL uses called career passer rating? Anyway, metrics aside...

Schefter can say what he wants, I have never seen QB-needy teams coming out all at once, covering their butts because of possible tampering. That smells of b.s. It just has never happened.

I get the arguments about injuries. I think they are vastly overblown. QBs with injury histories get paid all the time. Sure, he runs more than most, but he has gotten injured in the pocket.

It's a risky business, and the owners have the ultimate say-so. But let's not act like they don't talk and draw hard lines among themselves. Kaepernick didn't get a job for a reason (and not the bullshit reasons that some Huddlers were spewing).

It tells you nothing other than the Panthers are not interested.  Besides nobody can talk to him until next week.  People are just freaking out because nobody has expressed interested in an oft injured and overrated qb.

THIS!

People need to stop using Watson as an excuse to not offer him a contract. We don't have to offer him that contract. Just offer him what we think he's worth.

If Baltimore matches so be it. At least we tried to get a franchise QB at a fair price.

Yea not lost but it was mostly the ravens playing it smart because they are almost in a win/win spot right now with the non exclusive franchise tag.

This story reminds me of a nice little laugh I had at the expense of a very annoying and rude neighbor that lived across the street from me.

One of those who think they know it all, and are out to prove they do to anyone who will listen.  She was retired Coast Guard from Boston area.  Did I mention she knew it all?

Skipped out to the mailbox to catch me, like she did all the time.  Boasted that she had just sold her house, and was finally moving onto the island.  Good for her, get the F out of my hood.

Knew I was in the real estate biz (although I don't work in general RE), and was giggling that she had saved 6% by selling her house herself, and had gotten 80k more than what she had paid only 1 year earlier.

I congratulated her on her "move up", and her 6% savings....I let her know that that 6%, about 22k or so, cost her right at 100k.  I started laughing, she went pale.

She had underpriced the house for the neighborhood, as she had no idea what she was doing, her "knowing everything" cost her a LOT of money.

Lamar is going to cost himself MUCH more than the 10% the agent would have cost him.

    • He is a QB, on a rookie deal and Cousins is old coming off an achilles injury. Which QB they got is the part that is highly debatable if it was good. Yeah they could have used that on more tallent but Cousins doesn't win in the postseason so it wouldn't matter anyways. Chances are good they take the NFCS regardless this year or it goes back to a Bucs team that just breaks .500.
