Who's your 3-4?

It's possible. But I think if you already have Shaq at ILB you need some more beef there. With Shaq and Chinn at ILB you'd be lacking some serious beef inside against the run. 3-4 ILBs are expected to take on a lot more blocks than a 4-3 LB typically sees. It's why Ray Lewis who spent considerable times in both schemes greatly preferred playing in a 4-3.

In a traditional 3-4 the LBs are bigger than in a traditional 4-3 - and our previous coaching staff didn't think Chinn was big enough to play LB.

I've no idea where he fits into this system - he's even more of a tweener on paper, but I'm sure the new DC will adapt his system to the talent he has.

Amare Barno could make a great 3-4 linebacker edge, honestly makes more sense than Luvu there due to the extreme length and speed advantage. Personally I always thought Luvu worked better as an inside linebacker, he has insane play recognition and is a pursuit tackler. But he is not the most athletic dude, in fact he ran a 4.84 40 at his pro day, and I don’t mean to take away from him. He is one of our best defenders, and probably our most underrated defender in the league.

Our new DC is known for building defenses around players strengths so I’m genuinely so curious to see how Chinn is used.

Ideally he should be playing as a cover 3 SS a la Kam Chancellor in the old Legion of Boom in Seattle. He was made to play that role. But we've indicated we plan to play a two deep shell. Playing Chinn in a primarily over the top coverage role is just a waste IMO. If that's the type of D we want to run and we don't see him as a LB then we should honestly entertain trading him.

Oh, Barno is gonna be a rush OLB in our new system if we're running a legit 3-4 scheme. Backups play too.

I’m fuging excited about Barno, maybe I’m being a homer but I noticed him when he got snaps. His first step is just scary combined with those long ass arms. Having him and burns opposite of eachother would be the fastest and most agile edge edge rush pairing I’ve ever heard of.

Oh, he stands out athletically for sure. He's definitely one I'm intrigued to see what he develops into. Maybe he'll just be another Swole Bones. Or maybe he'll be another Greg Hardy. On the field that is. Hopefully not that other stuff.

I'd like to see the Panthers sign David Long (LB), Drue Tranquill and re-sign Ioannidis.

The second round pick should be spent on DT or DE, using FA or trade to fill out the WR/TE spots.

Is it time to consider trading Jeremy Chinn for draft capital? Dude just seems like a man without a position anymore.

I think we will sign a WR in free agency, but the rest of the $$$ will go to find 2-3 free agents--a NT, S (depending on Chinn's involvement) and maybe CB (remember what Brady did to us, and we can count on Action Jackson for about a half season).  I think Shaq and Luvu will be the inside LBs.
