We need healthy players first of all. Played without Svech and Chatfield tonight against NJD.

We need scorers. Svech, Aho, Necas (in a breakout season)are exactly that, they need to step up.

Ghost was a good add, I expect more good things from him. I want to see Puljujarvi get more time and see how he develops. I liked seeing him on the Aho line, maybe they can rekindle the chemistry they once had.

Im just not ready to write this team off yet despite two bad games with no pucks in net.  I still think that this is a better team than last year.

We need to work on passes! Some poor passing tonight and several bad decision blind behind the back passes (and a couple good ones).

And Raanta is our best chance in net, Pietr is still learning.

Im the first to admit I’m a hockey novice, but outside of goalie play, it has seemed we’ve needed our defense to score to be competitive. We’ve had more than one game this year, im pretty sure, where the defensemen have scored all the goals.

The guys that get paid to score goals need to start earning their pay. It’s crunch time and here we are cold as ice again (no pun intended).  I have no idea how to fix it, but with the firepower we have, we shouldn’t beat bad teams 1-0 or go 8 periods without scoring. Just my 2 cents.

I love the Canes and always will, but our goalies will kill us in the playoffs.  I already noted that Freddie hasn't been anywhere near his level last year before he got hurt.  Raanta is, well, Raanta and Koochie isn't ready.

The only thing I believe the Canes can do is hope that we are healthy and double down on playing excellent defense.  This means less pinching by Burns especially, but overall by the defense.  The D will have to pinch, but these guys aren't dummies they are professional players....pinch at the most optimal times.  Burns kills me sometimes with how he is always pinching in and teams have and will take advantage of it.

Our offensive lines have to buzz defensively as well.  The forecheck has to be better, we have to play lights out during the playoffs and not have any lulls.

This team can do it, but they are going to have to step it up immensely to win the Cup.  When the Canes are playing their best hockey they are Stanley Cup quality.

What we've seen the last couple of games is what has happened in the last couple of years during the playoffs:  poor defense and decisions leading to our goalies to have to "steal" games which they are incapable of doing.  Also, the great disappearing act of our offense.  It all seems to happen at the same time.

The only other option is to basically open up the offense (which isn't what Rod likes) and see if you can outscore your opponent and play 6-5 games.  I am sure RBA wants the team to be more defensive minded, but it's a delicate balance.

They think it's a partially torn ACL which might as well be a torn ACL.  A player like Svech doesn't go on a partially torn ACL even though some athletes have done it.  Makes no sense.

He's done for the year unfortunately.  Waddles didn't plan on injuries like this during the trade deadline and it's going to come back and bite us in the arse.

Svech must be disappointed, but poo happens.

Time to step up Aho, Necas, Jarvis, KK,Turbo, and Pool Party.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
