Even if you ignore the size narratives with Panthers head coach Frank Reich, Stroud is still the most logical fit for the play-caller.

Stroud’s ball placement, accuracy and consistency are phenomenal. Those traits will help Reich and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, as they look to create an offense that relies heavily on spacing and yards-after-catch opportunities.

Alabama’s Bryce Young — who would also be a fantastic pick here — is probably the better prospect, but Stroud feels like the better team fit with this current staff. The Panthers traded all the way up to No. 1 to nail this pick, and Stroud fits like a glove.

Legendary hockey coach Herb Brooks was famously quoted as saying "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right players" when picking the team to go against the Russians. Kaye applies a similar principle here talking about the Panthers.

System fit is definitely a consideration In the sense that Stroud would require the fewest adjustments to the system. And while I know Kaye technically refers to taking height out of the equation, you realistically can't. The truth is adjustments that might be necessary to compensate for Young won't be needed for Stroud.

I suppose you could somewhat say that takes height out of the equation because it's not a factor based in a fear of Young being fragile but on more practical terms.

i'm leaning this way myself. Young will be phenomenal, but from what i've seen about Reich and what he wants to do, Young seems like the better fit.  And i don't put much stock into the size/height narrative. I just think that Stroud is the better fit for what Reich will be doing...at least that's my opinion. i know a couple of the Young homers might have an issue with someone having a different opinion about him.

We're talking about players that aren't on the team yet though.

If you're picking between two players and one of them requires fewer adjustments than the other, that's the one you take.

Especially when you are looking at installing an entirely new system with a new coaching staff and expectations. The system isn't just the QB and the Coach, it's also adjusting everything from line building to comeback drills to rushing formations to even strength and conditioning issues.  So many things are having to be built from the ground up here.

If you've got a guy who has to have fewer adjustments made on his behalf, that saves bandwidth for the rest of the team building process.

I agree with Kaye's assessment - Bryce is the better QB but in terms of fitting a system and Reich's background with QBs and Stroud fitting more of the prototypical size, I'm thinking Stroud will be the pick. 

I'm conflicted though because how the modern NFL game is played is you need a creator at QB. I could argue that the San Franciso 49ers have had the best system in the NFL the past 4 years - 2 Conference Championship appearances and 1 SB appearance - especially this past year with starting 3 different QBs.

However, it's not too surprising that they came up short to Mahomes, Hurts, and Stafford as they created two or three plays outside their system to win.

I think that's why Kyle decided to go with Trey Lance over Mac Jones because Lance presented a more dynamic element to his game.

I would probably take the better QB. Coaches change, but a great QB can transcend any system.
