The thing is they like AR a lot and if we hadn't traded up to #1, AR would most likely have been the pick.

They just see and value Young's whole package as better and more ready for the pro game..less risky...than AR.

op i tried to find the CJ stroud release time of 2.5 seconds and found nothing. what is the source?

i googled and found this

https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/top-10-qb-prospects-nfl-draft-2023-ft-bryce-young-anthony-richardson

Quote

Tanner McKee is a massive quarterback at 6'6" tall and weighs 230 pounds. This should help him in the NFL, as well as his elite release time.

He registered one of the quickest releases of any quarterback last year with the Stanford Cardinal at quicker than 2.5 seconds. His reaction time and decision-making will help him avoid elite professional pass rushers and potentially avoid turnovers.

You may have inferred it, but I never said it. All I said was Bryce spends more time running around, than he does in the pocket.

People say CJ is bad under pressure. And You is some savant. Well is sure is easier to evade pressure when you are running from the pocket.

But again, I just don’t agree. On tape he always spends a lot of time in the pocket and probably has the best pocket movement in this class (although Richardson has really good pocket movement too). Him running around to create is the highlight reel stuff that people put in cut ups but he’s always been strong in the pocket and plays primarily from there.

And yeah, sometimes he does leave pockets early and that’ll be something they’ll have to coach up but I just can’t knock a guy for evading pressure in the pocket and making more time for himself, especially when he’s been successful in doing so to this point.

I thought this too but saw more footage BEHIND him, and that really allowed me to watch his head, and how he goes through his reads and what he sees.

Sometimes when he holds the ball, he actually sees an open guy, but checks a potential better option, and if covered, he goes back to the open man he saw.

He won’t have that option as frequently in the NFL, but that can be coached, since he does indeed go through reads quickly.

I think he naturally was confident in his line, so his inner clock knew he had the time to do that. If he gets accustomed to less time, he will adjust.

At least that’s what it looked like to me. We shall see.

Thanks for the civility. It is appreciated. I know Young goes through reads. So does CJ. The question is; Why does Young's running around seem to be part of his Pocket Awareness?

He gets credit for leaving the pocket. And CJ gets no credit for his pocket awareness?

If we take Young I'll be excited. For as long as it lasts.

IF we take CJ, I'll be happy for years and years.

First off.  Who told you this?  Bama’s OL didn’t even crack the top 100 in all of CFB this past year.  Bama’s WRs were trash and “give me a break on no talent” is a lame excuse.  HS rankings doesn’t mean crap.  Ask Clemson about DJU who was the 2nd best HS QB to come out that year.

Plenty of QBs will get the ball out.  When their WRs get open.  Bama’s WRs were at the bottom of their conference in creating separation. Bryce bought them enough time maneuvering in chaos (one of those things noted by our own Josh McCown) while scanning the field and finding the open man once the guy got open.

I hated to give this a pie as a Clemson fan, but DJU was straight a$$.

The only part of his game that leaves me wanting more is his arm strength. I’ve said it before that it’s good enough it won’t hold him back, but it’s probably somewhere between Teddy and Sam in strength, which is enough, but like everyone I love a laser if possible.

Now what happens when he leaves the pocket and only has half a field to work with?

Thanks to all who actually tried to have a convo. I appreciate it.

You know what. This has turned into a troll fest.

Lock this fuger up.

It seems like trolling is actually more fun. Plenty of it in this thread. Seems like a good way to go.

But hey, I'm done. This was not worth the effort. Too many trolls to have any honest discussion

Okay see yeah here lately I’ve been feeling like AR is their QB2. Ever since Joe dropped that article a couple weeks ago. And I mean tbh if the team around the QB wasn’t as talented/ready to compete as we are in some spots, I might’ve been more okay with AR as the pick. But I really feel like Young gives us a chance to compete right now.

Maybe the FO and Staff feel the same

It's the biggest BLUFF in football. "Hey, you're the Carolina Panthers right?"

Yeah.

"You seen the Son of Cam right!?"

Yeah.

" From far away he looks like him, runs like him, did you see him throw 80yrds like it was nothing?"

Yeah.

"You like him?"

Enamored.

"What about his S2? You know egghead's are all about that?..huhu right?! You know what I'm saying how did he score? Lol. How well does he process according to S2?"

Very good.

"Sooooooooooo, you picking him"

Nope.

That's been his go to schtick for years.

He can be good, but he keeps going back to that. He likes to troll, poke bears, them jump back and say "Whoah! Where's all this hostility coming from?"

    • I think it's strange that you still can't see where I'm coming from, and I guarantee you don't have more faith in him than I do.  You're looking at him in a vacuum, not about the team around him and the likely offensive game plans this season. We're going to be a run first team with 3 receiving options better than any of the other players on past rookie 1k seasons. If you can't understand that, then it's a you problem, not a me problem. Arizona's previous basketball coach, Sean Miller, used to do something at the first team meeting of every season and I think it's soooooooooo applicable to this situation. He'd have every player right down how many minutes/points they expected to average that season and then he'd add them up.  It would show that if they all hit those numbers, we'd score like 125 points a game and need to be playing 7 guys at a time to get their minutes. That's pretty much how you guys are putting your T-Mac expectations out there, looking solely at the player and what you think he should be able to do, not how the offense will operate as a whole. Every yard one player gets is one less yard someone else can get.  It sounds like I just have more faith in Thielen, XL, and Coker this year than most everyone else.  But a big reason for that faith is because of T-Mac and how much he'll open things up for the rest of them and Bryce being the type of QB to take the open easy passes than force it to his #1. As I've said, if any one of the following happens... Thielen ends the season sub 700 yards, XL or Coker end up sub 500 yards... Then yes, I will then shift my expectations for T-Mac's rookie year to be at least 1,000 yard season. But since I have faith in those other 3 having solid seasons, it tempers my expectations yardage totals for T-Mac this year, and this year alone.  I've also clearly stated many times that I think he's going to reach 10 TDs. If T-Mac ends the season with 800 yards and 10 TDs, while Thielen gets 900-1,000 and XL/Coker each get around 600, I don't see any world where that is a failure for a rookie season for T-Mac. Because again, we're talking about expectations, not what is possible.  So given the other WR options, I can't EXPECT T-Mac to get to the 1k mark, which is a far cry from me saying I don't think he can get there. Do you really not see the difference there?
    • I don't recall anyone seeing this coming.  I mean, two seperate things for me.  I thought BB just might not work in college football because he is old grumpy man and college is about appealing to young kids.   So yeah, that could of gone great or horrible.  Coin flip.  This isn't that convo for me.  what we are witnessing right now play out.....this was never part of the disaster possibility/path discussed lol.  Really weird stuff.  Or maybe I missed the part where UNC hires a 20 year old "girlfriend" that apparently runs the Bill operation and before the season even starts is taking over more than just Bill but influence of the entire UNC operation.  That was her getting that official statement made today.  It was her sabotaging the Hard Knocks UNC show because she somehow wasn't the star.  Seems like elder abuse lol.  Only largely kidding.  You even got Charles Barkley saying he normally doesn't talk about personal lives of his friends but he might have to check in on Bill because this ain't normal stuff lol.  Anyway, it's entertaining.  Everything is a cartoon it seems these days.
    • I think its strange how you were claiming this guy was the second coming of Mike Evans and you can't even get behind 1k yards? I guess I have more faith in him than you
