Miller's gun case

Leaving a gun in your backseat as a top NBA prospect would be dumber than giving it back, and most reasonable people aren't going to call the cops on a teammate for owning a gun because there's nothing illegal about that. Easy for y'all to act self righteous now with the benefit of hindsight but he acted no differently than most normal people would in the situation.

So you wouldn't ask any follow up questions?  You can't be that incompetent

Dude, stop making excuses for him.

Most normal people don't hang out with a crowd that would EVER be involved in a shooting at a bar so they will never be in this situation.   Because they aren't morons like Miller is.

He has a major character flaw and terrible judgement.    Maybe worse.  I don't want him on my team and will never cheer for him.   The massive majority that dislike this pick have a very legitimate reason.

It was a 18/19 year old hanging out with a bad crowd, who happened to be his teammates (which makes me feel a little better as he didn’t go out and seek these friends). Hopefully he learned his lesson, but I wouldn’t link his poor judgement of friends/teammates to him knowingly being involved with the killing of an innocent woman.

Maybe, maybe not.   Nobody will ever know how much he truly knew.   But he was at the scene.  So it's more involvement than 99% of society will ever have.

So personally, I'd rather a person with solid character be drafted (especially when the other player considered is at least equal talent wise).

I think Scoot would have been a great choice (we would need a different coach, but honestly we probably still do), but I don't think that makes Miller a bad choice.  I've seen pretty good draft grades for us so far.

Yeah that's where you've got to give some benefit of the doubt.

On the flip-side (not directed at you), it seems there's a perception for some that gun possession for 18-19 y/os, male, in a college town, at 130AM, is somehow common or not a baseline issue here...so that's where there's some gap for me.  Must be a generational thing.  I don't think, as some say, its a high horse type thing or being self-righteous.  Seems like common sense to veer away from gun activity when you have a highly public career on the line and millions upon millions of dollars at stake.

Especially considering this was coming to the hands of someone who had been drinking and you are apparently sober...but Miller was initially trying to get in the club/bar with them.  So his initial intent was to hang out with these guys at the bar?  I guess he was just considering sober chilling with them until his next DD call?

He simply didn't have to drive back there and seeing that text should have prompted any "normal" person, as some put it, to not come.  The risk unto himself as an individual should have made him not go.

Anyways, the PD shut the case down quickly to confirm Miller was not an accessory.  So that's what we've got.  It's still sketchy as hell.  A woman, young mother died.  You don't have to be at the beck and call of your sh*tty teammate.  Especially when you're the blossoming star.

Considering the personalities of his new coworkers, like Bouknight & Bridges, it makes me super nervous.

If this team wanted to look serious about Miller's development and the build, they would ship Bouknight, not bother re-signing Miles, and get some better dudes around Mark, Miller & Lamelo.

That's my wish.  This dude is on the team now so it is what it is.

It's clear some of you don't care to read about the case and are just running with whatever you want to believe. Miller already planned on picking up the guy up and was on his way when he got the text, he just didn't wake up to "bring me my gun" at 1AM and decide to deliver it. No, I would not ask a follow up because I'd assume a guy who forgot his gun would want it back in his possession.

I feel like I can no longer value your opinion on this matter since you would probably display the same lack of poor judgement and lack of fortitude.

Mods, can we combine all these into one "Hornets Crime Thread" discussion?

That way you can get Miles, Miller, Bouknight and whichever player gets booked next. Maybe Hugo can wear an orange jumpsuit this season. He looked stoked about the Miller pick last night.

Because he was already driving there and the gun was "unknowingly" already left in the back of his car.  He definitely shouldn't hang on to someone's gun, but the main issue is hanging out with that crowd in the first place.  I understand they were teammates, but you don't hear about Clowney hanging with that group.  I hope a huge lesson was learned.
