Having that trade be successful isn't/wasn't reliant on being 100% sure that one of those picks turned into another Burns like is often framed, but rather that the value locked up in his position could be disbursed across multiple positions with good odds of turning a number of weaknesses on a growing team into strengths.

That said, what's done is done and he will hopefully develop into a true all-around monster this year. However, the potential of that trade that didn't happen can and will be discussed all the way until that final pick passes in 2025.

We have zero players with large contracts. We have a rookie QB. Now is a good time to lock down your best Defensive player. 

 

At some point in time you have to pay your best players. And right now is a really good time for that.

Frankie lines up at edge and Mike, primarily more the latter as the season went on. Quite a few of his sacks came from blitzing thru the middle.

You're spot on, I just want to emphasize how bad our edge rush is not named Brian Burns.

Well, technically, there is only 1 person in this thread that wants to jettison Burns. However, he has lots of silent partners.

What's quaint is this assertion of disrespect/fans don't appreciate/'insert similar comment here' present in a given fanbase, as if there aren't differing opinions across every team in the sports world. I live here in KC, arguably the top of the NFL for several years now, and there are people complaining about the fanbase. Hell, even certain players were whining about it in recent years. The whole 'fanbase doesn't appreciate...' take is incredibly stale and unoriginal.

When the fanbase considers its star WR to be a mid-tier WR2 because he didn't score touchdowns with shitty QBs, and its star DE to be on par with league-average DEs because he doesn't play the run like Brian Urlacher, yeah, saying they're underrating players isn't stale and it isn't unoriginal. It's valid.

lol You can dance around it all you want with that KC stuff. But, in this thread, you're the only one that wants to trade Burns. What's that say about the amount of support your stance is getting?

 

What's the use of having a Rookie QB on a rookie QB pay scale, if you don't use the money to pay your best players? Pay Burns, who we've developed, or pay a FA who may not even fit?

Burns likely continues to prove everyone correct to an extent. 

Is he a great pass rusher? Absolutely. 

Is he a great overall DE?  Not really.

In fairness to the rankings this same group also had him top 5 after his rookie season so take it with a grain of salt.
