Hey y'all! I dropped my most recent power rankings on the Touchdown Wire and thought you might be happy where Carolina lands. Yes I am a bit of a homer, but I try to be at least somewhat critical.

Yep, love the placement of the Panthers, gives us something to work from but gives us some credit for what we've established.

My only issue with the rankings are the Jets and Cowboys are too high. I don't believe that the Jets were really a QB away and I've just learned that you can't believe in the Cowboys.

Still, so glad to see your work getting noticed in the big leagues! Keep up the good work!

On paper, the Cowboys are the NFC Superb Owl representative almost every year.....until they are not.....which happens when we move from paper to results.  They almost always perform like a collection of players rather than a team.

Damn if Arizona isn’t setup for the top pick this year. If they are driving it, they might keep Murray on the bench. Maybe they want Harrison Jr or they expect a haul like Chicago got from us. If Williams and Maye play well then they could end up with pick 1 or 2 and get a bunch of picks.

It was easy to move on from Rosen but Murray’s dead cap is $81M in 2024. It’s reasonable in 2025 ($33M).

I do not think the Panther placement is homerism--I think the others are downgrading the Panthers based on their recent rep.  The Panthers, as stated, are only a QB away, and this team won 7 games without a good QB.  We have a lot of questions, but all teams do.  I think the Panthers will win 10.

Interesting that in your scenario the #17 team can (seemingly) be favored to win a division. Cool.

I think Atlanta is going to be better than people are predicting.
And TB ranked higher than them when they appear to me to be the most depleted team in the division?
I guess this illustrates why no one pays me for my opinions.

I agree. We won 7 games and were a helmet removal penalty, that happened off the field, away from winning the division. That's after firing a head coach, starting a bunch of scrubs at QB all year, and our two best corner backs being out on injury for a large part of the year. Without being a homer, I would say logically, upgrading your roster, drafting the #1 QB in the draft, and hiring the best coaching staff we've ever had (most likely) we can't win two or three more games, and win the division. Come on man. Whatever. I guess the Panthers will just have to prove it, and I think they will.

You nailed the reason right there.

We weren’t a helmet removal penalty away. We lost the division by letting Evans abuse us. Tampa had Gabbert playing week 18 after they got the lead because that game didn’t matter.

Also, we completed a 60+ yard Hail Mary that we couldn’t do again with a QB who likely is out of the NFL. We got the penalty but it was a miracle we were even in that situation. We then blew our chance but who cares, Tampa got blown out like we would have been.

We also don’t have Young now if we make the playoffs. I’ll take Young over a meaningless blow out every day.

Don't get me wrong. I am glad we lost and then could make the trade up to number one to get Young. I hate losing, but it was a blessing, in hindsight. My point was, this team is not a bottom dweller, win 4 or 5 games type team with this talent, imho.

    • And you know this how? Stay in your lane, junior. I'm pretty sure I'm a lot older than you, am a whole lot more experienced with life, and have watched football in earnest probably longer than you've been alive. I agree, but I was talking directly about injuries. As far as the economics, I'm assuming that Moton would have to take a pay cut and would probably be compelled to if he wants to stay in Charlotte. He seems like a thoughtful and practical guy. He knows that he's getting older and realizes the nature of the business. Hell, last time there were were questions on whether he would be here the last season. Dan and Brandt were dialing up the pressure. I don't think they're going to go into any type of contractual extension discussions without having a backup plan--i.e., a person that will appear to be Moton's replacement. And, to be honest, that person may be Moton's replacement depending how things go. But, I get the impression that Moton wants to be in Charlotte (unless he's developed some undying desire to chase a championship somewhere else).
    • It would be pretty fun with something like this. 3 on 3 the first 5 minutes, 2 on 2 the next 5 minutes (after a stoppage), then 1 on 1 (after a stoppage) the rest of the way. I just feel like this would be equal parts entertaining and chaos to watch
    • I'm more surprised our odds to win the division didn't really improve that much after free agency (like +380 -> + 320). I threw a few hundred on us to win the division again at +425 back in February, just because I figured Atlanta and Tampa would get worse. After our free agency, I am still surprised Tampa is the favorite to win the division.
