Foz,hurney, entire staff back according to sources

The only way I can overlook a John Fox return is if he changes his philosophy, shake up his staff (Special Teams, WR coaching) and restructuring Jake's contract and statements from his mouth that Jake will not be starting.

Like Mav1234 said as of late the team has looked completely different with Matt, if us fans realize Fox has got to know this.

IIRC, When Foster never lived up Fox&Hurney Released him in a heart beat, hopefully they'll wise up and do the same with jake.

I can deal with Fox returning for maybe one more season. Maybe he'll realize his old school bullshit doesn't work anymore and actually try different things like in the Giants game.

However, if Jake is allowed to come into camp as the job his and someone else to compete for it, I'll be way to upset.

Here is my only concern Munkey, Fox has always been the type of coach that will not let a starter lose his job because of injury. So with that philosophy and the fact the he and Hurney hitched their wagon to Jake, I would not be one bit suprised if Jake enters OTAs and training camp as the incumbent starting QB.

i'm kind of surprised that people are surprised by this. the past week or so the writing was starting to show up on the wall.

hopefully the team will play lights out for him next year trying to get him a new deal.

hopefully he's moved on past jake...i heard that the order to give jake the extension came from higher up the food chain than fox/hurney.

maybe whoever gave that order is either gone or realizes the error of their ways and has backed off that.

maybe fox has decided that he wants matt to start.

maybe they will get smith that good WR on the other side.

maybe this new writing project i'm doing will earn me $90k a year.

maybe.....but i'm not counting on it. i'm just hoping good things come from what is happening.

HA mediocrity?

Like the Browns/Lions/Raiders/Bengals (75% of the time)/Rams since 2003 ?

We just don't know how good we have had it is the problem.

This place would be so empty if we really had a BAD team.

The bottom line is that if this team had gone 6-10 then Fox would be gone. We beat the Giants and the Vikings, but we also blew a big lead to the Saints, lost to the Bills, and started the season 0-3 with virtually no legit chance of the playoffs.

This was a WASTED SEASON. It was classic John Fox/Marty Hurney football where they are too stubborn to see that we had a good thing in Matt Moore. We did the same thing with Deshaun Foster and Deangelo Williams.

Now lets discuss the ridiculous decision to sign Jake to an extension after major arm surgery and a season where he was a mediocre QB feeding off of a great running attack. That was a fireable offense right there IMO...

THEN they backed themselves into a corner with a DE that they have NEVER been able to get the most out of. So instead of just standing firm and letting him walk or making a trade...we do the most ridiculous thing imaginable. We sign him to a one year 16 million dollar contract and then trade a first round pick to draft a DE to replace him???? Are you freaking kidding me???

So instead of looking at the big picture of how disastrous the last 10 months have been...we are looking at a fraction of Fox's entire tenure here. We are basing the fact of letting him stay (and Cowher go) on the fact that we just beat the Minnesotta Vikings and the New York Giants. Based on the fact that we were 12-4 last year...WE SHOULD HAVE BEATEN THESE TWO TEAMS!

How does underachieving all damn year and then winning a couple of tough games translate into job security??? How??

That would be like you having major surgery on both of your legs and the surgeon screwing up the right leg so that you could never walk again and then saying "well come back and I'll do better on the left leg." So on the left leg he makes it as good as new. But it doesn't change the fact that you still can't freaking walk!

Comparing sports to any other profession rarely a legit comparison. Sorry but doctors jobs are largely based off of knowledge. Coaches make decisions bases on what they THINK will be best for the team. They didn't get to learn in training, "If Julius Peppers decides to hold out, this is what you do."

Despite how much we want to make Fox pay for how terrible this season went at the start, there are a number of factors that influenced this 'decision'. I'm going to play devil's advocate here, because I can understand the thought process behind retaining Fox even if I'm not sure I'd like to:

First, the starting QB play was GOD AWFUL. For most teams, that's a death sentence. Few teams have backups capable of carrying the team to a winning season. We probably did, so oops. But, having a terrible season from your QB and then having him get injured will give at least something to point to as to why the team did terribly. Now, we have a good starter who looks like he could develop into an actual vertical threat. That's unreal for this team, and something Delhomme gave us only 2 years of really in Fox's tenure. From an outside perspective, this looks GOOD for Fox, not bad. (This is a legitimate knock on him for not developing other QBs in that period, but he's starting to look slightly smarter with how well Moore had played, just wish he'd been in earlier...)

Second, the injuries. Go look at the IR thread someone had going. There is not single unit that has not had significant injuries this year. But so many new faces are doing so well, you almost don't want to mess with that chemistry by removing the person who made it all possible: Fox.

Third, the way they're finishing the season. Yeah, people can say that the before the Vikings game Fox knew he'd be back, but there's a reason this story is just hitting now. Started out 0-3, then got blasted by two AFC East teams we should have beaten to end our playoff hopes... Yet this team is still competitive at the end of the year. That says something for Fox's ability to get these guys going still. If they had quit on him and we'd lost the remaining 4 games of the season, I strongly believe he'd be gone.

Finally, the money. The wording of this announcement is clear: Fox can either choose to stay and try to make something of his last season here, or he can go pursue whatever secure job he wants elsewhere. The choice is his, and though I suspect he'll be back, this is NOT AN EXTENSION IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. he WILL be a Lame Duck if he returns, and he needs to win (and likely win big) to come back. If the Panthers fail to make the playoffs, he's gone.

2001 teams wasnt as bad as there record makes them.

Yes they were.

We have similar ideas about what ought to happen now, but in fairness, Fox does deserve credit for what he`s accomplished with this team.

I believe it`s time to move on, but that doesn`t diminish what Fox did when he took over.
