Bryce outplayed Stroud today

This will be a debate their entire careers.  Today Young gets the "W".  Stroud clearly shows he can play in this league.  I actually wanted Richardson deep down but knew it was either Stroud or Young.   We got Young and he earned his first game winning drive.  He said it in the post-game news conference.  "It's hard to win in this league".  Bottom line we scored more points than they did.

Stroud's first drive had some amazing throws and some incredible catches against some solid defense.  The guy deserves credit for his accuracy on that drive.

Our defense, though depleted, played a pretty good game and deserves some credit as well as Young.

It's one win but as they say, you go into each week 0-0.  Hopefully, we have a good game against Indy next week.

The only thing about Young that drives me crazy is that, because of his small stature, he doesn't escape when defenses get their hands on him.  His pocket presence is pretty good but damn if a defender gets his hands on him he's not going to break away.  It is what it is and we'll just have to hope our O-Line improves and gives him better lanes to escape, if necessary.

Imagine the reverse - Bryce throws for under 150 yards, 3 batted passes against the 31st-ranked defense missing two starters in the secondary while Stroud gets sacked six times and still orchestrates a Game Winning Drive.

The moral of the story is to allow rookie QBs to develop and take their lumps. It's encouraging after the bye to see Bryce have his best game so far and consecutive games without an INT or Fumble.

This is a sobering thread to revisit.

So many thought the Texans win was a sign of things to come and Bryce Young had arrived. Others were baffled over the level of rejoicing over 15 points scored and still concerned going forward.

Life comes at you fast folks.

Odd time to bump considering CJ's stats last game.

What's your point?

CJ Stroud's most recent game has been Bryce Young every week 9 times out of ten.

CJ Stroud is:

2nd in passing yards

2nd in passing yards per game

3rd in yards per attempt

5th in passer rating

20 touchdowns to 5 interceptions

Bryce Young is

25th in passing yards

34th and barely ahead of Kenny Pickett in passing yards per game

Dead last in yards per attempt

32nd in passer rating and .05 higher than Daniel Jones who's been shown up by undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito.

9 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.

But sure. Let's talk about Stroud's bad game.

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
